We came across a lot of Primula species during trip to north east sikkim this spring. including P. dickieana.
I just saw this Plant Portrait (http://www.srgc.org.uk/pport/pdick.html) and thought it could be of some interest.
Here is some pictures:
1-4 P. dickieana
5-6 P. elongata
7 P. calderian
8 P. atrodentata?

Hello, Johan, Greetings from Aberdeen!
Yes, it is most interesting to see these primula species in the wild. When was your trip?
-
Hi Maggi,
23 of May-5 ofJune. I guess the time was about right. At least we got to see a lot of great things in flower.
-
Thanks, Johan. The growth ( foliage) looks pretty young and fresh.

Thanks for these lovely portraits Johan. I notice in the 4th picture of P. dickieana, it is the different colouring described by Admin Fred in the link you gave. It's a bit hard to tell from your pics but do you remember whether all the pin eyes were of that colouring and all the thrum, of the yellow throat colour? If so that characteristic must be quite unusual in primulas. It would be helpful if many others were of similar disposition, helping us to choose plants specifically for seed production (if they were available of course. :)

Wonderful plants, Johan. Himalayan Primulas are very close to my heart, immediately after himalayan Androsaces. What a pity that all of them are not so easy growable as Primula denticulata is.

But we know you love a challenge Zdenek. :)

Beautiful pics. It must be lovely to be able to see things like this in the wild.

Now that’s a blast from the past! The Primula dickieana in that plant portrait are long gone – they just sort off fizzled out…………… as Himalayan primulas often do………. :-[

Lesley,
I don't know much about that, didn't see more of P dickieana then the ones I've posted here.
Paul,
The Himalayas is just fantastic and a place I wish for all plant interested people to see!

I collected seeeds of a couple of Primula species on an earlier trip to Sikkim and I hope to keep them :) at least for a while!!
Some Primulas that have flowered for me from Sikkim collected seeds:
1 -2 Primula macrophylla
3 -4 Primula (please give me a name)
-
The leaves look rather like those of flaccida but the flowers certainly don't ???

But we know you love a challenge Zdenek. :)
Yes Lesley, I know it too, very well.
