Title: Alpine L
Post by: Maggi Young on November 12, 2009, 08:30:16 PM
Is there a problem with the Alpine L site?  https://listserv.surfnet.nl/archives/alpine-l.html
The last few times I've visited there is only the October page showing as the most recent... I've tried refreshing link etc... Any of you Elves around here know?

I can only presume that it is incredibly quiet, Maggi?  There has been little activity for the past three or four months.  Might I suggest that you post your query on the site?

Certainly in the last few weeks Alpine-L was having lots of software problems and especially so with hyperlinks and I had a protracted correspondence with Eric Gouda.

I have to say (and this is very much a personal view) that Alpine-L is a "shackle to the past" and not "a handrail to the future" and there seems to be very little need for people to spend vast amounts of time repairing it given the effectiveness of this Forum in particular.

I have to agree with you David. I have given up both Alpine-L and Trillium-L because, quite simply, anything I may have got there can be had so much better, right here. There is an immediacy here that's very appealing and of course, the PICTURES and while I knew many names of those two Forums (Fora?) I never felt they were my friends as I do here. We can talk about ANYTHING at all here and not be chastised for going "off topic." OK, so cooking and the like aren't alpine subjects (we all have to eat) but generally, we try to keep the other things separate from the plants and most of us have a lot of fun in the process.

If "Fora" is the plural of "Forum", is "Florum" the singular of "Flora?" :D

Totally agree David, this Forum does have such a wide breadth of interest. In fact, I do not have time every day to go on the Forum but when I do, I have pages to look at and it is all so informative and interesting.   Like a good book, hard to put down.

Maggi, I have not had anything more recent than late October.  Thought it was probably me, but have not had time to miss it.

It would be a shame if  it proves to be the case that there are terminal technical problems for Alpine L  :'( .....some of my best friends are Elves  ;)
