154 photos of Crocus side by side :o
http://www.marksgardenplants.com/crocus2.htm (http://www.marksgardenplants.com/crocus2.htm)
Before anyone asks I'm not adding individual names or links to the main images, sorry. The page is for your enjoyment and can only be seen via this post.
A few photos have gone missing during the upload so I'll sort them out now
-
Beautiful, Mark ... a great pleasure to scroll down through this page!
-
Thanks Cliff.
I forgot to say a
big thank you to all the forum members who have allowed me to use their photos
-
Magnificent Mark. I know it must have been a hell of a lot of work putting the pics on the Site but can I plead with you to go the extra mile(s) and put names to them as this would provide a very useful resource for Forumists. I don't understand the technicalities involved but if help is needed, and is possible, then all you have to do is let me know.
-
Great job Mark !!
Wonderful page ! :o :o
-
Thanks.
David if there is a demand yes I'll do it when the sun goes down

Are you aware these prangers can now be custom ordered in hard dark chocolate. It is not even possible to nibble on the framework whilst locked in? 8)

I know! ;D :D :D ;D Messrs. Leonidas supplied a large box to me, via Arthur and Luc Gilgemyn, at the Discussion Weekend!......I have to tell you that Ian has nearly scoffed the lot.... I have had barely one third! :o :( I must be getting slow.... perhaps it is all the chocolate which is slowing me down..... that Bulb Despot moves like greased lightening when there's a gourmet morsel to be had!
-
Absolutely gorgeous, Mark.
So many different colours and markings, I can see why people want to collect them.
-
Thanks Maggipie
I have just looked at the page for the first time using my laptop. It's not as a made it on my PC >:( I made it to have the photos 3 per line but now I see 4 per line with some gaps.
How does it look on your computer?
-
4 pics per line with some gaps on my lap top too, Mark. :-\
-
4 or 3 per line but the important thing is that it is a feast for the eyes, Mark, thanks for the link I will visit it often ;D
-
3 per line on my pc, Mark..... but when I converted the page to a pdf , it split it into pages with two per line...still looks good though!
-
Mark,
wunderful picture collection!
I see 4 pics per line with some gaps.
-
Mark, here's what it looks like on my pc, my resolution is 1680X1050
-
hmmmm.
What I dont understand is I designed it to be 3 across. My laptop shows them 4 across and you have them 5 across.
If eveyone is happy I'll leave it alone or I can seek a nerd/geek.
-
3 on my pc Mark with that gorgeous pinky apricot singly at the end.
What a wonderful treat and a superb way perhaps, to introduce doubters or snowdrop-addicted Forumists, to the joys and great diversity of the Crocus. I'm happy with or without names. In fact, perhaps as a Christmas guessing game.....?
-
Mine too Mark. 8)
-
5 per line on my pc, Mark with a 3 in the middle and at the end. Great to see all these gorgeous pictures together.
-
Mark, using firefox and Vista, you can click on view at the top of the page and zoom in or out to view five, four, or three pictures across the screen.
-
Good to know Michael. I'll not worry.
Lesley maybe I will leave out the names although I have now added names to them all but not uploaded it. A game would be good but we would have to exclude certain crocnuts and me
-
Mark, looking at the source, each image you uploaded has a defined height and width, so the amount of pics you see in each line depends on the size of the monitor and resolution of the viewing area of each person that looks at the page.
So the bigger the monitor/viewing area, or the bigger the resolution, the more pics will be displayed in each line.
-
5 per line for me too. Gorgeous! Although I keep trying to click on the pictures to get a larger version. Obviously a pavlovian response to pictures on my computer now! :o
-
The latest web page to the web site will be announced when I wake - late I hope!
-
I hope you've had a good sleep, Mark. It really is great to see them all side by side. Interesting to see a few of my pics that you've added...... interesting to see which you have chosen. ;D All great stuff, thanks for putting it together for us. 8)
-
Mark , superlative !!!sincere thanks from one of a handful of really keen Crocus growers
in the Southern Hemisphere . It would be a most welcome Christmas present if by then
they all have a name .
On my screen they appear one under the other , only a few doubles side by side .
What can I do to rectify it ?
Otto.
-
We have a new widescreen flat monitor and I get 6 in a line - but I haven't managed to find the work out the keystrokes to change them into snowdrops :( ;) ;)
-
Vivien, your funny bone is in top gear this week.... your comment above and your hilarious suggestion as to the mystery gathering at the discussion weekend have me chortling happily, thanks! 8)
-
Otto thanks.
David and Otto the names are now added. Place the cursor over the image and the name will come up. I meant to say yesterday they are in alphabetical order but I dont know why speciosus is at the top ::)
Paul I'm just up. I hardly slept last time because dreams about the forum and the new web pages kept waking me. I thought of a new page - Dactylorhiza.
Vivien I might do a snowdrop page side by side but not in the near future. I have an extra 125 photos to add since I did the new web page in 2007. Doing 154 Crocus was bad but I'm not planning to do 425 Galanthus in a hurry
-
Mark, this afternoon rain is forecast so I will spend some time looking through your wonderful new crocus gallery, the photos are superb and it is possible to ID photos from your individual crocus species pages - just to let you know that the rollover ID did not work for me on your gallery but not sure why? I am on a iMac.
Also it would be good to have a link on your Home or Crocus page to the gallery as I had to go back to your link in the thread post to access it. These are just comments not complaints as I know what hard work it is to do such a big gallery of photos. However I'm sure it will be well used by forum Members and provides a wealth of knowledge and information of all sorts including Crocus in assorted tunics - which I love ;D 8)
-
Robin input is what I need. The tunic page is rubbish when I think I repotted the whole collection and took no photos.
I have added the link to the web site home page.
-
Perfect link, thanks, and the detail just there above - two windows open in your browser for each link and ID's side by side ;D
-
Just a note to anyone who already viewed Mark's new crocus extravaganza and has just gone again to see the names..... refresh the page when you get there, because I just found the rollover name reveal wasn't working because the page http://www.marksgardenplants.com/crocus2.htm
had come out of my cache and so was the pre-name version.
-
Never mind the 154 crocus. Who is this new "Ragged Robin" - and I can only see one across at a time though there were a few vertically. Looking good.

Otto,
in case you use Internet Explorer following may help:
Open Marks picture page,
Click "View" and go to "Zoom". Adjust the % value manually.
Or quicker: open picture page, use short cuts: "Strg +" (=zoom in, press "Strg" & "+" bottom) and "Strg -"(=zoom out)
This works for any page. ;)

Vivien I might do a snowdrop page side by side but not in the near future.
No pressure, Mark - I can wait :) :)
After all, it was your great snowdrop pages that got me hooked on them in the first place, long before I discovered this forum.
-
Should I be happy or worried you got hooked? My first main season snowdrops has a nose above ground
-
Everything works nicely for me so I'm very happy with the whole caboodle. Lovely to go back to a few times each day as the rain falls and more snow coming tonight apparently. :)
-
Mark,
Even with a hard refresh I don't get the names popping up. Maybe something to do with using Firefox though?
-
Paul I'm not familiar with other internet programmes
-
Paul
I use Firefox as well --same result as you with names not popping up --however if i right click to view an individual pic the name appears--(not in the pic but in a tab above).
Cheers dave.
-
Using firefox I don't get names on mouseover, but if I use internet explorer I get the names when I hold the cursor on each pic.
The code used must only work for microsoft internet explorer
Using internet explorer this is what I see
-
3 per line on my pc and I can see the names as well. Thanks Mark, it's a marvellous crocus gallery.
-
Thanks Gunilla.
-
Well done Mark, and many thanks.
-
To view names on a Mac using Firefox :
1. Place cursor/arrow over pic, click,
2. At same time press Control
3. Select "View Image"
Large pic opens in new window with name displayed top left.
This also works with Safari:
Perform 1 & 2,
3. Select "Open Image in New Window"
Large pic opens with name in bookmarks bar
-
Interesting to hear the method for those folks with Macs and Firefox, Gerry, but it would take rather a long time to see all the names that way... with new windows opening each time..... seems that the IE/pc version where the name appears with a cursor hover is the more user friendly system this time ::)
-
If you are using Firefox on a PC, right-click on the picture then chose 'Properties'. You will then get a floating box which has the name of the crocus at the bottom.

Maggi - "more haste, less speed" as my granny used to say.
This is what one gets with Firefox (I have cropped the window to the actual pic size).
-
Maggi - "more haste, less speed" as my granny used to say.
Quite so, Gerry, but I am being told all the time of how little time some people can spare for browsing and I try to be mindful of their needs. :-X
-
Mark, thanks for your wonderful crocus page. What a splendid way to open another crocus season (the first of the autumnal crocuses are just poking up here). And thanks, too, for going back and adding the names.
-
Thanks David and Jim.
A suggestion has come in. I have been given a tip that should help everyone. Go back to
http://www.marksgardenplants.com/crocus2.htm (http://www.marksgardenplants.com/crocus2.htm) press F5 to refresh the page. Place the cursor over the top left image. Does the name come up?
It's important for you to reply to say yes or no and what you are using for a computer and the internet eg IE, Firefox, Mac ..
-
Yes, Mark and I'm on this beknighted pc, using IE .
-
Yes Mark it does, but all was well before too. Windows PC and IE
-
Hi Mark,
it works only for the top left image indeed. PC and Firefox here.
-
84.2% of traffic to my web site this month has come via links on this web site. That's 13,000 visits looking at 84,000 pages. It just blows my mind when I read this info. Top 10 countries are GB, Germany, Estonia, USA, Sweden, Canada, Ireland, China, Australia and Belgium. 11 people have spent over an hour viewing the pages. The average stay is 40 minutes.
The most looked at page is?
-
Wim I have only edited the one photo.
-
We have touched on different operating systems. Hits to the web site show the top three systems are Windows, Macintosh and Linux. IE, Fierfox and Safari are to top three browsers
-
Wim I have only edited the one photo.
Well, then it works with Firefox too...
13,000 hits is just amazing, but you have a very nice site with beautiful photo's. Always a pleasure to visit your site.
-
Thanks David and Jim.

Mark - with Mac/Firefox, just placing the cursor over the pic brings up a name which disappears after about 5 secs. As before, nothing with Safari
-
Works for me, Mark. I'm using firefox on a PC.
-
I'll change the page later
-
As before, nothing with Safari
Gerry - Nothing here with Mac / Safari. The only way to see the name is to press Control / Save Image As and the name appears as the file name. Otherwise zilch.

Good news. A click on a Crocus photo at Mark's site now brings up the shot with the name! Great.

JohnI Googles where you live. Are you mild compared to the rest of Canada in the winter?

Mark,
I am using Firefox, and Yes, the top left, and only the top left, picture has the name appear when I hover over it now.

JohnI Googles where you live. Are you mild compared to the rest of Canada in the winter?
Mark - Southern Nova Scotia and parts of its Atlantic coast are probably the mildest areas in Canada east of coastal British Columbia. Colder than that part of BC and you would think this area an icebox in the winter. Cool summers, lots of fog, rain about the same as Vancouver distributed fairly evenly through the year but not always when needed. Would like less snow, ice and a tad warmer & earlier spring, oh and more soil.
We are quite far south here, about 44 degrees and a bit latitude, roughly that of Milan.
Cheating a bit, the very mildest part of NS is an island 300km southeast of here. Sable Island is a fascinating sandspit, 45km long x 1km wide. It's uninhabited aside from 1 provincial naturalist (she's been there most of her life researching the herd of wild Sable horses - they've been there since the 1700's http://dutescoart.com/gallery/sablehorses/ (http://dutescoart.com/gallery/sablehorses/) ) and a couple environment Canada folks at times. Interesting birds like the Ipswich Sparrow for one. It's illegal to go there without very special permission - I intend to try someday. Worth googling.

Mac/Safari works on mouseover.
-
And with me now (Safari 3.0.4).
-
Mark
Only discovered this thread when my Broadband returned after several days out. Wonderful site and it works for me exactly as you intended - 3 per line and names appearing on mouse rollover. I am using IE on a PC
-
Good to know Arthur
I was to add names to all photos but I've been in the garden all day. Maybe later
-
Very nice well done!
With mac and safari it worked with the first picture as has been stated before.
Hope there will be time to name the rest. It would be nice to have when looking for seeds.
Great thanks for the work it is great :o

Thanks Joakim. I'm very busy in the garden these days so no adding of names just now
