Post by: Armin on April 14, 2007, 10:13:00 PM
here are some shots - todays temperature peak 28°C.
Some Tulips like neustruvae and tarda developing no long stems due to unusual heat.

Tulip - forgot to lift the label - outside
same again inside

'Little Princess'

saxatalis - I think I was told last year this is the wrong name

tschimganica - 'bud', outside and inside

clusiana 'Lady Jane'

clusiana 'Tinka'

Great tulips, Boys! They do love the sun, don't they?

Maggi, usual yes but if it becomes hot so fast and too dry see what happens... Examples: T.clusiana and T.albertii

Armin, that is the same effect that 28 degree heat has on me!
Your rose foliage is well advanced, I see.

Maggi, yes due to 28°C - I almost caught my first sun burn today.

But fortunately there are still better pictures available...

Mark, your T.saxatilis could be a T.bakeri.
They look very similar.

Mark, I like both Lady Jane and Tinka. Tinka is almost white on your picture. That's why I wrote red/white.

T.bakeri vs. saxatilis: I don't know exactly but taxonomy says T.bakeri is a synonym to T.saxatilis. I also read T.saxatilis is a triploid form (likely from T.cretica & T.bakeri).
The optical difference however are the anthers and pollen from saxatilis are black. T.bakeri pollen is yellow. Both spread by stolons, set not regularly seed.

Gorgeous series of Tulips Armin and Mark !  What a splash of colour.

Here's what I have as T. bakeri 'Lilac wonder' - not rare but I like it a lot - and it does move around Mark !
Mine are planted in the garden in a pot with the bottom removed, that keeps them where I want them  ;D

yes my unknown white and yellow Tulip is tarda ex kazakstan. My whittallii and orphanidea are lost under my Lonicera purpusii. I'll have to move thm when dormant.

I was hoping more people would come forward with Tulips so here goes with more of mine
batallinii with 8 petals/sepals

clusiana 'Honky'

Mark
if we had autumn flowering tulips I'd send in a pic! At present the first tulip foliage is just above ground, one of the cretans, T.cretica of which I posted a pic in the old Forum last September.
cheers
fermi
PS see you in 3 days time in Prague!
