Does anyone grow this and can supply me with some seed? Or know where I can get some? It seems almost unobtainable despite being seemingly every botanical artists favourite subject. I've wanted to grow it for years but may have a chance now we are on dryish lime soil. At least until the Lily beetle arrives...

I have 3 bulbs grown from seed that John Forrest sent to me about 4 years ago. One has flowered and the other two are looking plump already this year. I'll be hand pollinating so if there is seed you will be welcome to some. Remind me around Christmas time. I've loved it since seeing it in Greece years ago. A lovely species.

I've never dealt with seeds-by-size before, though they certainly have an interesting list. There are some Iris species that look interesting too..
Lesley - what a kind offer, thank you. It would be ironic if some seed made its way back from you to only 50 miles from John's house!

somebody you know quite well and who lives just down the road grows it.
I am waiting for seed to ripen having pollinated my flower from Matin B's pollen.
I am also growing some small bulbs on from scales.
Clearly the saying 'you never know whats just around the corner' is very apt

Now that the Discussion Weekend is over, I've got some time to see what you're all writing about lilies. Sorry not to have replied to Darren's post earlier. Anyway .....
I had 2 good plants last year which produced 2 seed capsules. Some of the seed went to NZ via Dave Toole and the rest to the RHS Lily Group. Mine was the only seed of this lily that they received and was much in demand. To my horror, this year the main bulb was destroyed by a slug (I think) and the other didn't do very much but there's hope for the future (isn't there always?). So I've no seed to pass on this year, unfortunately. However, I have got several pots of seedlings at various stages which I hope will increase my stock in due course.
It's good to see that a few other people have it for the flower is a beautiful scarlet red.

Liz, after all your work organising the Discussion Weekend ..... grand job, by the way! and your fondness for hill-walking when you are not gardening... and given that you are nominated to be the next SRGC President, when President Ian the Christie kind, steps down... then I think that "Busy Lizzie" is the ONLY suitable name you can choose!! :D ;) ;D ;)
