If anyone has missed me over recent days it is because I have been in Dunedin hospital since July 13th. It started at 10am with a sore stomach and that day ended with a perforated ulcer and nearly 5 hours of what I was told was life-saving surgery. Three days later I had a heart attack. It was relatively minor and a subsequent angiogram showed that the heart had actually provided its own repair system by growing extra arteries to encompass and compensate for the ones which were blocked so the bypass surgery which the heart man was talking about at the beginning of the angiogram, didn't have to happen. I feel incredibly lucky.
I'm home now and though I'll get to all the Forum posts soon I hope (there are over 1000!), it will be a slow process. I can't concentrate for long and am having some mightly headaches in the mornings.
So this is just a quick heads up. I'm alive and reasonably well, and I'll be back soon. For now, very best wishes to everyone.

Yes, you were missed, Lesley. Good to know that you are back with us. Look after yourself,
-
Welcome Back! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :-* :-*
And when I tuned in and saw the thread I thought "not another poor soul recovering from the flu" (Never saw a pig fly until the swine flu in :P) Makes me feel lucky that I only had the flu. Hope you soon feel MUCH BETTER.
....over 1000 posts ... enough to give anyone a headache, morning, noon or night .... the next 1000 will be messages of goodwill and get well just for you :D
Take it easy - Best wishes - Tony x

I was just about to pick up the phone when I saw your post , Lesley! I still will....
By george, we have been worried about you ! Otto told us you were in hospital and Susan was keeping me aware that I didn't need to dust off my black hat with the feathers quite yet...... :P Hoped that a tough old bird like yourself wouldn't be too long in hospital and it's great to know you are home safely now.

If anyone has missed me over recent days . . .
I think, Lesley, that more people missed you than you may realize. There wasn't much discussion about it once the news got out you were in hospital, but don't for a second think anyone failed to notice.
Welcome back, both to the L of the L and the forums.
-
Take it easy Lesley. We were all worried about you.
-
Welcome back Lesely. Nothing trivial I hope? ;)
-
Lesley, am sorry to hear of your ordeal but so pleased you are back with us.
Your heart repair sounds very similar to what my elder brother's heart did years ago, amazing and wonderful.
-
Just had a chat with Lesley, who sounds pretty good, after all she has been through this last few days.
Roger says she'll have her work cut out to wade though all her emails. Since it is snowing again there and Lesley is under orders to take things very easily for a while, I think she will be able to occupy some time quite well by catching up with her mail and the Forum!
I must say that I am pleased to hear her tell me that she does intend to follow doctor's orders..... after such serious surgery that seems very sensible!!
-
Lesley,
Glad you're recovering.
-
THanks so much everyone. I missed you all terribly. As well as the messages here I've about 30 personal messages and I may well not get to answer each one but they are all appreciated very much. Likewise, the little packages of seed which arrived while I was away. Again, my grateful and real thanks. I'll have lots to keep me occupied for ages to come.
Shame about that recipe for a choco cake though. It sounds a brilliant version. But NO NO NO. :'(
-
GET WELL SOON, DEAR LESLEY ... WHO ELSE COULD LOOK AFTER THAT BEAUTIFUL LITTLE RANUNCULUS FOR POSTERITY?
Cliff - also bedridden, but only with this damn flu', thank the lord.
-
Left a message in Cook's Corner but want to doubly say how pleased you're home with Roger to look after your every whim :o ??? ::) :-\ ;)
I am sure he will do a wonderful job as a Male Nurse, Chief Bottle Washer and Scrubber - leaving you to do the important job of commenting on the posts ;D
-
Good Lord, Lesley,
You don't believe in doing things by half, do you? You just couldn't disappear for a few days holiday as many another would. Drama, drama, drama!
You know, of course, that I'm just teasing. This is more than a bit of a shock. I really do hope you take care of yourself. I reckon they broke the mould after you were born, so we want you to stay well and with us for a long time yet.
Take care, Paddy
-
Glad to have you back Lesley, you look after yourself.
-
Great news to see you back "on line" Lesley !! (on line = alive and kicking ;D ;D)
The SH wasn't the same without your posts ;)
Take good care of yourself and don't stress about the 1000 messages... 8)
-
Lesley,
So glad your stay in hospital was a short one and hopefully you are well on the way to a full recovery.
If it had to happen any time, you chose the time of least garden/growing activity ;) :) or frustration would have been added to your woes.
My absence from the Forum has just been down to quantity of work decorating my bungalow from top to bottom. Nearly finished and will then post again.

-
Welcome back Lesley. VERY relieved to hear that you're OK. I hope you stay that way too. ;)
-
Indeed, Welcome back, as you can tell we are all relieved that things went well, now put your feet up and do what the doctor ordered and have a speedy and full recovery please.
-
a few folks did indeed note your absence ;)
good to hear you are on the mend and that you dont need another surgery!
take it easy!
-
Again, many thanks for good wishes. You know me Paddy, I have to be in the thick of things. ;D
One VERY good result of my time in purdah was that I have lost 8 kgs while in hospital and a further 2, all without trying, since I arrived home. I simply couldn't eat to start with - most unlike me - and since, I can't put it down to Roger's cooking because he is a very good cook and because I've been doing it myself anyway, one of the things I can do with no problem (don't like sneezing much!). I'll soon have to buy a lot of new clothes. Oh, what a terrible outcome. :D
Cliff, even on my deathbed, I'll always try to look after R. semiverticillatus. In the meantime, I think your flu may be even unhappier than my lot. Do take care of yourself.
-
Lesley,
Our two health systems have the ability to 'aid' weightloss in common. My recent trip ended up leaving me several kilo's lighter. Glad you're happy about it.
-
Crikey, have you been poorly, too, Rob? Hope you are feeling much better....or at least on the way to mending.
Sometimes I do think that this club ought to be the SWGC, but I suppose a little licence is permissable so we can be the Scottish (W)Recked Gardeners' Club :-X :'(...... mind you, we all seem to keep cheerful enough, and that's the main thing.... hard to be too depressed when there are the wee plants to care for!
-
Hi Lesley welcome back. I didnt notice you gone because I'm only back too but my absence was due to technical difficulties.
Tony you had Swine Flu?
-
Hi Lesley, so good to hear you are managing to do things in spite of your op and that all your seedlings and plants are in peak form to welcome you home :)
-
You Rob, most likely didn't need the weight loss that I did and still do. I can't really explain it as I'm eating 3 reasonably square meals each day and am still losing weight at about a lb per day. Mind you, not a square of chocolate has passed my lips for 2 full weeks, nor anything sweet or cakey. I am finding a use for my previously bottled apricots, peaches and plums though.
-
When Jacintas gall stones play up she stops eating things sweet or cakey and switches to fruit and her weight comes down quite swiftly, so nothing sinister in eating good, looking good and (hopefully) feeling good :)
Good to hear you are mending, keep up the good work.
Yes Mark, although the GP avoided the 'S-word', we appear to have all had Swine flu, either that or some other new flu virus is sweeping Britain. Clearly whatever it was none of us had any immunity to it. Two of us had nasty throat and sinus infections as a consequence which linger on (and on in my case) after the flu symptoms depart - good news is that for the other two it was relatively mild, just as the advice suggests.
-
Take care Lesly,
But, watch out with chocolate!
My grand children transform chocolate into an energetic fuel I call "Babythanol".
After eating chocolate, they begin to run here and there for 1 or 2 hours.
Imagine in what kind of fuel could a gardeno-maniac transform chocolate!!
Weedothanol?? Digothanol??
Hope you will get well again.
-
Hi Lesly,
When I found Your post wishing me all the curage one can expect, with regards on my knee replacement I could sense there had something not been right with You .just
today found ,this postings what had happened
All what I wish to say,I hope You will recover to the women with the great spirit and drive You are,and we can all enjoy to have You on the Forum, and the pleasure we get of it.
Best wishes Lesley,and speedy recovery,
from us both,GUY & Maureen. ;)

Thanks you both very much. I'm feeling a little better each day and if the weather holds, there's plenty incentive to go out and worship crocuses right now. Funnily enough, I haven't felt the slightest need to go near chocolate. If that lasts it must be a good result. :D Years ago when I went to weight watchers and bemoaned the fact that I couldn't have chocoalate cake, I was told that I soon wouldn't WANT choco cake. But I said that I didn't want not to want it. Which just shows how perverse and foolish I can be. :-\
