these are difficult to photograph, the flower to last little hours

Alessandro,

The trade-off for the short flowers is that you get SO many of them over such a long time when the bulbs are full sized.  If yours starts setting seed though, make sure you don't leave many pods on.  So many of these short-lived flowered Iridaceae keep putting out flowers unless they are setting seed (which they then put all the energy into, instead of more flowers).  C. herbertii has to be one of the longer flowering of the Cypella/Tigridias from my experience.  Aren't they just wonderful! 8)

Even more fleeting is Cypella peruviana (Hesperoxiphion peruvianum), and it has a wonderful sweet scent which C. herbertii doesn't have.
