That's made good time across to you, Carlo.  We got ours yesterday and a chum on England said theirs arrived a couple of days ago. Makes the world seem smaller, doesn't it?

I was mildly disappointed to find that no anniversary cake came with the bullletin.... I'm ever hopeful  :P
I'm looking forward to the Anniversary weekend Conference in September.... there may be cake then.... or we could take some down! :)

A very happy 80th birthday to the AGS and yes the recent journal looks great just arrived, very interested to read that Meconopsis betonicifolia will now also be known as M. baileyi, after all these years and so many plants grown I wonder? but these have been studied in the wild.. Anonther super write up also from the bulb guru about what else but Eryhtronium japonicum super pictures Ian,  cheers Ian the Christie kind.

Mine has arrived today too and yet the March issue only arrived 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Mine has arrived today too and yet the March issue only arrived 2 or 3 weeks ago.

The vagaries of the world's postal systems never fail to amze me. If one has resigned onseself to waiting weeks for something it arrives inside a week.... then one pays for superfast delivery and it takes four months..... who knows how these things work?  ::)
We used to be hugely frustrated by the time it took the NARGS bulletin to get here and so we are always interested to learn when the SRGC Journal reaches the more distant Members.
It must be very pleasing for the AGS to know this bulletin on their anniversary is getting around at speed  8)

My AGS copy just arrived this morning. Fine job there Ian. I have to ask about seed of Erythronium White Beauty - do you replicate the cultivar from seed or get a smattering of hybrids as well?

Hi John

Ye it is good to help the AGS celebrate 80 years - some achievement.

Seedlings from 'White Beauty' give a range from being almost a clone of the seed parent to some very interesting hybrids when it crosses out.
Many of the hybrids I have shown I suspect have 'W B'  as the pollen parent.

I just got round to starting to read the 80th Anniversary edition of The Alpine Gardener. It's such a pity that the only picture of Scotland shown on page 140 is not of the iconic, and beautiful, Suilven as stated but in fact of the nearby Cul Mor!
