Title: Visit to the 'Flora' Cologne
Post by: Gerdk on June 15, 2009, 07:40:45 AM
Here are some impressions from a visit to the Flora - the Botanical Garden of Cologne (Köln).
The park is situated just opposite the Zoo and both share a lot of interesting trees, planted a long time ago. Furthermore there is an ancient picturesque rockgarden, built by English specialists (so I was told).

1.+ 2. around the entrance
3. - 6. an alley with palm trees - unfortunately seriously damaged by frosts last winter
7.       Cornus kousa
8.       Clematis orientalis
9.       Albizzia julibrissin
10.     Arundo donax

5. + 6. Ladybirds - the Japanese variety?

We call them Harlequin Ladybirds, because they are so variable.

Luc, They had some wild forms of African violets in the greenhouse but not the 'real ones' !  ;)
