Title: Unknown plant in rock garden
Post by: Brian Ellis on May 27, 2009, 12:07:22 PM
On a visit to a garden at the weekend we saw this plant, I am sure someone will be able to identify it for me please.  It was about 20 cm tall but looks as though it might shoot up, probably planted by a bird!

Only a shot in the dark:  Epimedium shoots after pruned to groundlevel?

Don't think so, but I can't offer anything better. :(

That certainly does look like a strong shoot, doesn't it.  Can't help with identity, although it is dimly ringing some bells in the back of my mind. ::)

Looks like a Berberis species, certainly reminds me of one I grew from seed cw in Arunachal Pradesh.

Funnily enough John that had crossed my little mind...definitely not an epimedium though Gerd.

Sorry - believe it or not: I actually thought Berberis and then wrote Epimedium!

A faulty circuit!  :-[

Well I thought that was strange from you Gerd :-\  Faulty circuits are all too often in this household!!  The concensus is towards berberis then.
