Title: funny seedling
Post by: Hans J on May 13, 2009, 07:48:52 PM
before some years I have received seeds from a friend which he has bought as Arnebia pulchra .....I have no idea about this plants but I tried it .....
Last year I have plant this seedling in a open sunny border ( after a suggestion from a nice friend from here ) .....
Now yesterday start this plant with opening her bud ....and I was very surprised to seen that the flower is white ( normaly Arnebia is yellow ) ....
Today the flowers are fully open - but what is this ? ....I would say never a Arnebia - but may a Cistus or something similar ....knows maybe anybody here such a plant ?
I'm not sad that I have now not a Arnebia - because I like Cistus .....

Is it not a funny thing ?

Hans I can't help hou with what it is, but I don't think it is Arnebia pulchra because that is yellow with chocolate spots at the base of the petals.

A pretty thing, Hans....... perhaps Cistus sintenisii  ?

The British National Collection Holder of Cistus has a website : http://www.cistuspage.org.uk/

Maggi :

Thank you !
I have also just searched on web for pics ....my idea was Cist. monspilensis ....but your idea is much better.
( the description of leaves = apple green ).
This seeds came orginal from Czech.Rep. .....I suppose they are w.c. and maybe in fall is it not so easy to see if it Arnebia or Cistus ....

What for me also is interesting :
I have lost in last winter some of my Cistus ( no wonder after this long and strong winter ) .....but this small plant has it survived perfect ....always new surprises !

Hans, the seeds of Arnebia are quite different to Cistus seeds, but maybe they were just mixed up. I had seeds from a seed exchange for Arnebia which grew as an Ophiopogon.  ::)
