Title: Iris acutiloba and Iiberica elegantissima
Post by: John Mitchell on May 05, 2009, 10:29:19 AM
Here are a few more Iris from Edinburgh.  I am showing some of the Iris growing in the wild and you can compare how they grow here, we have a few issues with I acutiloba ssp longitepala The standards tend not to stay up right i am not sure if it is just the way it grows in cultivation. The others will grow true to form

Iris acutiloba ssp longitepala is found in Iran i think i am right in saying that it only occurs here, but Iris actutiloba grows in Transcaucasus as well as Iran and is more wide spread.

Lovely, are they not? It was a super display altogether, but the Iris were very popular. We are hoping that John and his colleague Elspeth may have some plants to bring to display at Aberdeen Show on the 16th May, but, of course, it all depends how the weather goes .... it may be that all the flowers will be over by then  :-\ ???

Thanks Maggi from me too on the photos from the Aberdeen show. Pity they could not be shown separately without the other flowers behind but I guess that was not possible.
John those narrow long standards and falls are amazing - so very different. Sure hope seed of this becomes available some time in the future.
