Title: Crocus May 2009
Post by: Magnar on May 02, 2009, 11:17:57 PM
It's already May, but crocus flowering is still going on here in the north. These two were planted last year and flower for the first time now. :)

While everyones hervesting the seeds, I want to show some pictures.
First from Abant this was my second visit. Before I have visited early april and now late april. Crocuses were all over in the lower part but in more higher part, edge of snow there were still lots of things to see.
I hope you'll enjoy!
C. abantensis.

The second crocus is olivieri supsp. olivieri. The first time everywhere were covbered with C. ancyrensis now same place is covered with C. olivieri supsp. olivieri
And which I have seen near the lake C. olivieri were look like flavus, strange but they were not have 6 divided style.
The leaves and corms were like olivieri. You can see on second picture.

Gerd, I am just enjoying to share with persons who love these small beauties.
Here are more fresh pics, taken this weekend from Uludağ. And I am sure that we can see crocus in flower here even next month because there were still lots of snow after 1900 m.
C. biflorus subsp. pulcricolor.

Wow! A real treat, Ibrahim, thank you!  Is this a late year for the snow to remain?
I think your fine son is more impressed with the snow than the flowers! Good play time for a little chap!

Many thanks Ibrahim. Crocus (& other plants) always look so much more attractive in the wild.

To paraphrase Gerd, I like your son - and Crocus abantensis is very nice too. :D Actually this is one of my most favourite crocuses for its clear blue colour and it does well for me. All these pictures are lovely Ibrahim. Thankyou for posting them.

I thak you very much for all your nice compliments.

Maggi, This year there is snow more than the other years but for Uludağ that is very common to see snow this time. I couldn't reach more than 1900 m. because of snow. Uludağ is 2400 m. alt!  A person which we were speaking said me that there is stil a line open for ski!

Here are a few frame from top where I could reached.

Definitely my first aim was to see C. gargaricus. I remarked that nearly all of what I have seen they have leaves in the same time. Just only some of them which are very near snow or in the water they dont have leaves or just started.
C. gargaricus subsp. herbertii

These are very pretty, especially the hybrids with their subtle shading of colours. It seems there's a crocus in bloom just about every day of the year, somewhere in the world. :)

Tony, Thank you very much for helpful ideas. After the hotels to go up by car from left side, the way was closed by snow. But still I have seen lots of flowers and enjoy more than I was planning.
