If anyone is too far south to visit the SRGC show at Perth, you might like to visit the AGS Midland Show at Solihull, just south of Birmingham. From 10am there's plenty to do: peruse the book stall, enjoy the refreshments and of course, the nurseries will be open for business, including Aberconwy, Pottertons, Graham Nicholls, Robin White, Rob & Diane Cole and Edrom Nursery. The actual show will be open to the public from 12 to 4.
The show is at: Arden School, Station Road, Knowle, Solihull, West Midlands B93 0PT. From the M42, take Junction 5, south on the A4141 towards Knowle, after 1 mile turn right into Lodge road, then at T junction, right into Station Road. The school is immediately on the left.
As I type this, I am processing entries and there are lots to process, so it promises to be a good show. There will be a swarm of forumists there, so do make yourself known.
Edit - Sorry, for starting another thread, Maggi I didn't see your previous posting, and thanks for merging them.

The Midland Show proved another superb event in a very consistent spring and summer. Hearty congratulations to John Harrison, Diane Clement and everyone involved in this tremendous event. The day started cool and cloudy but the sun came out after lunch and the hall was bathed in sunlight and colour all afternoon. The Farrer Medal went to 'the daphne king'; Robin White with a spectacular ... daphne!

Fully recovered yet Diane?
No, pretty tired still! It usually takes me a day to recover from a show.
Thanks to Cliff and Giles for showing their pictures, it gives me chance to see plants I didn't see on the day (how can that be possible, I wonder? but after my 7th show this year, there is only one show in which I have seen all the plants on the show benches and that was Chesterfield, where I was show reporter and was "allowed" in during judging).
Good to meet everyone, lots of forumists there.

Many thanks Luit and Robin...
We have an East Lancashire AGS Group meeting this evening ... featuring a lively lecture by NOT ONLY John Dower BUT ALSO Shelagh Smethurst, so no more images to be posted tonight apart from these two photos captured during the presentation speeches.
It's strange, but all show prize-givings look like religious festivals ...
Jim Almond, Brian Russ and John Harrison. What hymns are being sung? ;D

Cliff and Giles
Many thanks for taking us to this wonderful show. It is amazing for me,
because we nothing similar here in Germany.

St Patrick's Breastplate....."The three in one and one in three."
Incredible collection of stunning plants ther, thanks so much everyone for showing them to the terminally deprived of the dsouthern climes. I'm very taken with that little Aquilegia grahamii, so short and compact compared with most of the red/yellow species.

I'm afraid I am still none the wiser, Di? ???
-
Cliff,
Did you take any pictures of all of those D.petraea cultivars?
My pictures were appalling, and I'm in need of some photo-therapy!
-
Sorry Giles - I have a few more images to post, but no more daphnes I'm afraid.
-
I guess it was all those Ranunculaceae that proved too much of a distraction 8)

Ooh er...is it me Di? :o If so, Hi everyone!
If not...I've outed myself anyway, lol! I've only been lurking here.....until now!
Have to congratulate you Cliff on the wonderful photos, and so many too....it's like being at the show again.
It was a great show, and thanks to all behind the scenes for their hard work in putting it together.
Di pointed out and introduced me to a few other forumists, and it was nice to put faces to names.
I don't think I'll be posting photos on here anytime soon, I'm new to Alpines (though I do grow a few Cyclamen) and my photography is very iffy.....but I'm sure enjoying everyone else's contributions.
-
Hi, Denise! Great to have you out of the potting shed, so to speak!! Is this you with the waistcoat?
[attach=1]
-
Welcome Denise ... you have taken the first step by posting ... you can't escape now ... ! :D
-
And another welcome from me, Denise, good to see you on Saturday. Well done for "coming out" and don't worry about iffy photos, most of us can't compete with Cliff!
And anyway, the forum is not just for pictures ;)
-
Is this you with the waistcoat?
Hi Maggie,
Yep, that's me....Hubby in tow.
Thanks for the welcome guys!
-
Denise, in that case, please say "hello" to Mr Bridges, from the Forum!!
-
Welcome Denise
Glad to see that you are finally out of the closet ;D
There is no going back now

Finally got round to my latest blog "Portrait of a Show" which shows a bit of what goes on behind the scenes at a show.

And a very fine report it is, too, Diane. 8) Excellent insight into all the background work that goes on and super for those Overseas readers who never get to experience a show first hand of how the hall is transformed into such a colourful spectacle....... and of course there are lots of UK show visitors who do not have a full notion of exactly how much effort is involved to present the event; an eye-opener for them too, I expect!
-
Very interesting Diane !
Thanks for taking us behind the scenes ! :D

Many thanks Cliff for posting all the pictures of the Midland show. As show secretary I was to busy to view the actual plants so it is a pleasure to catch up what I missed out on. Also thanks to the other postings.
Many thanks Giles for your early contributions to this topic and very nice to meet you today at the show.

Hello, John and a warm welcome to you.
I can sympathise with your statement..... I know only too well that as a show secretary one often does not get to see the wood for the trees! There is so much to do that even with checking every plant to see if it is eligible for its class, it is possible to be surprised later at what pops up in a photo....I often think how did that get there? ....Things I have no recollection of seeing when someone asks who showed such and such a plant........thank goodness for photos! It is still never possible to capture everything, but these pictures are a super record nontheless. 8)
Your show looks to have been really super.... just hope there are plenty plants for Glasgow show coming up next week and then Aberdeen on the 16th May..... somethings seem to be going over very quickly in the changeable weather we're having, so who knows? :-\
