Just a few early images from the excellent North Midland AGS Show held at Chesterfield in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District today (4th April 2009). Congratulations to Mike and Ju Bramley and their helpers on another superb alpine show.
The Farrer Medal (for the best exhibit in the show) went to Chipping's; Frank Hoyle (his first Farrer success - many congratulations Frank) for a tight perfectly flowered plant of Draba acaulis.
Frank's wife Barbara also achieved some excellent results at the show and my first image features this very happy couple with Frank's Farrer Medal exhibit.

I'm afraid any future postings will have to wait for a couple of days as I am presenting a digital photographic workshop for members of the East Lancashire AGS Group tomorrow.

Could you do the honours please Maggi and merge them?  Thanks.

Great stuff, Anne, you're just having a little bother with getting more than one pic on..... Try this..... when you see the
"Additional Options"  at the bottom left of the page..... and click a new area will appear with "ATTACH".............browse (more attachments)
To load the first picture, click on "Browse" and select the photo file from where you have it saved on your computer.....
you've cracked that part.... now you need to click on the (more attachments) area each time  to add further pix in the same way.... then repeat for as many pictures as you have, up to ten each post. good luck!

It was a lovely sunny day and everyone  seemed to enjoy the show. Speaking to other people I realise how lucky I am to have such a great show just over a mile from home! and a great local group to be in! New Show secretary's this year but Mike and Ju still very active. Gill Saxton presented a new award in memory of her husband John.
Have booked for "Down in the Woods" so will see Ian speaking, will you be plant and Lily sitting?
Sorry to repeat a picture but i wanted to try and add the plant name to the post- (aware still need to put in the body of the post to be searchable)

Yes, Anne, I'm looking forward to coming to "Down in the Woods" too. I'll be booking my place as soon as I find out what the rates for the shoulder nights are.... no capacity to do that yet, online or with Pershore so I'm just hanging on.

Ian has had the pleasure of coming down to speak in the your area before and was royally entertained by the charming Bramleys .... sadly we see them only occasionally over the Border!
Great you all had a good day..... must say it rained on and off in Edinburgh.... mostly ON, of course when all the plants were going in and out!  :P  Flipping "Spring" weather!!

Many thanks to all those kind joint SRGC/AGS Members who post their photos and keep us in the loop of Southern activities  from our sister club.

A note, by the way, of reassurance to the SRGC/AGS Member in Edinburgh today who asked, tongue in cheek, if the SRGC were making money out of the AGS by providing this platform and publicity for AGS events  :o   The answer is, of course, no! The SRGC is pleased to offer whatever  help and support it can to like-minded clubs .... and this certainly includes the oxygen of  publicity  :)

My apologies to all concerned Maggi ... I didn't enter any plants so wasn't up to date with recent changes re: show secretaries.

It is wonderful that images from shows across the U.K. can be seen on both forums (and, of course, on Alpine_L and other like minded sites) and these postings will surely spread the word about these magnificent alpine gems to gardeners and nature lovers of every persuasion.

Anne, your signature says "horticulturally challenged." I wouldn't know about that but certainly not "photographically challenged." Very nice photos and great (especially for those of us who live in outer darkness :)) to have another picture taker and poster on the Forum. Thanks for your lovely images.

Thankyou everyone for the kind words and encouragement.
Sorry you had rain in Edinburgh Maggi. I have no idea how much extra nights are in Stratford. Possibly more than the £9 a night we are paying on a caravan site!
Looking forward to your talk next week Diane.

The overnight rate is tempting, Anne, but the purchase of the caravan in the first place is a bit much for the Young budget, I reckon!  ::)

 What lovely plants and photos.
Is that Erythronium from Della Kerr the one she won a medal with the other year?

I think so, unless she has two big potfuls.  She got a Farrer with it in 2007, Hexham I think it was.
