Title: Strange coloured nivalis - something new?
Post by: Gerdk on April 01, 2009, 07:43:38 AM
When I came back from a ten days trip I found this strange coloured nivalis -
I am not sure is this something special or is it normal behaviour of the species when the flowers are starting to fade?

Gerd,

what a wonderful thing to find - it is good that you still have flowers now that we have started the month of April.   ;)

Certainly an odd one, Gerd. Reminds me of a little demonstration I used do with school children to show that plants take up water etc. We would put some white carnations in coloured water and the flowers would later change colour. Perhaps your G. nivalis drank something unusual and so the petals were stained?

Gerd, great! Where did they come from? Long time ago I saw  a galanthus population near the river Elbe here in East Germany. And because we were a little bit red the galanthus had a red shine. I have good memories.

Gerd looks like the hybrid G nivalis x photoshopensis to me. Any chance of a bulb   ::)

You really wouldn't want it, Ian ... it's very fleeting!

I read the name of this topic, before I even opened it, and just KNEW it was going to be April 1st related.  A rather nice shade of pink though, and murky enough to be almost believable!  ;D

It also helps that we went through the whole "morning of April 1st" thing hours more than 12 hours ago in most cases, given the time difference to you lot.  ;)

Thanks a lot for your interest alltogether. I am just starting twinscaling like mad.
I hope next year - same date - I am able to distribute little pink drops ;) ;) ;)

But Maggi, it was worth it, wasn't it ;D? Shame on me I never get such reactions of my galanthus, what ever I tell them!
