Title: trip to Italy

Last friday i have done a short trip to Italy after work, to collect leaves of A. ursinum for cooking.

Insteed to collect that leaves I have searched for unusual Galanthus there.

My wife is very sad, only few leaves for cooking, but for me unique moments under some thousands flowering Galanthus nivalis, Crocus vernus and others....

also some othere plants:

nice leave forms of Cyclamen purp., Helleborus viridis, Epimedium alpinum, Erythronium dens-canis, Scilla bifolia, Anemone nemorosa, Gagea lutea.This year I haven`t seen Aristolochia clematitis.

Gerhard,

The yellow snowdrop is beautiful. I don't recall seeing one with marking on the outside of the petals.

How I wish these lovely flowers were as plentiful here as the garlic that you sought. Plenty of garlic here.

ohooo Gerhard, what a pleasure to see your pics. And what pleasure you must had in the wild nature.
The yellow is fantastic. this year the ovarium isn`t green (so it`s not BLONDE INGE -Type). But with yellow outer tipps it`s a ECUSSON DÒR-Type. Only the best.

thank you for sharing the photographs with us - so many nice plants.

I agree wholeheartedly with Paddy and Hagan - the yellow is wonderful - I have not seen one with yellow lines on the outers - very nice, a real beauty  8) ;D

Excellent place to go Gerhard, some wonderful galanthus and that yellow one is a real beauty with impressive markings.  :o Thanks for sharing your photos with us, I am sure we would all have liked to be with you there.

And if that isn't a mutant flower, isn't it a yellow poculliformis type as well (spelling on that?)?  It looks like it has only outers, no inners?

Would Trieste be the nearest airport (served by Ryanair out of Stansted) to your snowdrop site?  I have been looking for somewhere I can go to see snowdrops at this time of year (see March thread) and airfares to Tblisi Geogia seem to start at around £300/300€ which puts Georgia out of my price range.

Many thanks for your comments. Your interest will encourage me to show more of my botanical trips.

I expect that it need approx. 45 min with a car from the airport Triest to the places of interest near San Daniele.

Greater airports are in Klagenfurt - Austria (10km away from my home) and Laibach / Ljubljana - Slowenia, both approx. 90 min away.

The nearest airport is in Udine, but it is probably too small for tourism.

If you would decide to visit the area, please contact me. I`d try to find enough time to show you some places.

At the moment there is bed weather in this area, a lot of rain. But if you wait too long many of the Galanthus will have finished their flowers.
