Title: visit home --- in Italy
Post by: Mad on March 16, 2009, 01:09:41 PM
Hello to you all!
I am new, as you see, and I delighted myself with the travel stories you put here. I saw some of them describing Italy and, as I live in Italy, I tought to put some pictures of my home here. Thomas H. gave me the input, so, here I am.
I live in the Lago Maggiore area, in the valley that leads from Laveno to Luino and is called Valcuvia. In the center of the valley is my home, in Cuveglio. Behind the house there are some mountains, not very high, but enough for me and my dog.
Photos...

Hi Madi,

It is really interesting to see your pics -thank you .

I know Lago Maggiore well from my visits ( and walkings ) -we stay mostly in Cannobio and Cannero - your side ( Luino )I have visit not so often .
I'm totally surprised for your pic of Cyclamen -I have never found any in this area ( only on Lago Lugano ) ...
For me it seems the ground must be calcy -Hepatica and Cyclamen are typical.

Before some years I have visit the nursery of EISENHUT - I think you will know or ?

Please continue with pics.

Ciao
Hans

Thanks Hans!
I didn't saw Leucojum here, only Galanthus. I looked carefully because I've heard that there are also Leucojum, but never saw one. Maybe I'm not in the right place. Or the right time  ;)
Maybe next spring you would like to come and see bucaneve for yourself  :P

Leucojum like more wet conditions than Galanthus -only rare they growing together ....look near rivers !

Grows in your area also this beautyful Narcissus ? ( N. poeticus or a ssp. )

Thanks for the invitation ....maybe anytime .... :D

OK, promise I will look for Leucojum.

I didn't saw yet Narcissus, but I think I should climb Campo dei Fiori (it's the mountain that "close" the valley in direction Varese) because I've read that it lives there. I will keep you informed  ::)

Yes - I have heard from 'Campo dei Fiori ' - it's must be beautiful !

It was a missunderstanding : the Narcissus flowers much later - maybe in May

I saw it near Lago Maggiore( Valle Maggia + Valle Grande) and near Lago del Garda ...

Thanks!  :) I will put some other pictures as the year will go by.
In this period, besides the woods plants, we have the camellias in flower. Almost all the gardens have a camellia tree and the show is spectacular.  :o
Finally, Italy is not so far and our house is big enough for guests  :P ;)
