Title: ID? please
Post by: RichardW on February 18, 2009, 06:08:48 PM
anyone have any clues to this one?

usually careful photograph new arrivals & this one is a mystery, leaf, size, shape & habit is Magnet like but several flowers have quite distinct marks on the inner segment, a little variation in 3 flowers, the one in the foreground having the boldest markings.

must have had it for a while but can't place it, though suspect it is a swap from a few years ago which means it almost certainly came with a name?

Always the first question is: Do you have a pic of leaves ;)

Richard,  it looks like a Percy Picton,  but the  inner marks are not blurred together :(

thanks Hagen, I was given a plant as Percy Picton a few years ago, although the flower looks right am not convinced it was correctly labelled, doesn't have particularly long pedicels either.

as you can see from this one in the photo below the leaves are quite different.

Richard, I believe it is a G. nivalis with some plicatus blood in.I mean to see a little plicate edge. From the plicatus bycantinus could come the basal marks too. So it`s not Percy Picton. But a garden find, I think.

it is  :)

and is nice to have a pot of, although only 2 of the flowers have the "nicest" markings, it was planted today, will be looking forward to see how it progresses, although I'm still not convinced it wasn't given to me... of the few garden finds here is one I'm very pleased with.
