Don't you just love the little clown faces - the pollinator must have a sense of humour! Gladiolus debilis on a hillside in the southern Cape:

Thanks for doing so Maggi - the wholesale destruction of our natural fauna and flora is heartbreaking, so many of these magnificent plants end up in dubious potions that have absolutely no quantifiable effects on the ailments they're meant to be alleviating!

Some of our young scientists who are studying traditional medicine and other "magi-cultural" practises, make a point of going to these herbalist markets to buy up all the bulbs they can find - usually at R7 (50p) for three large, mature bulbs - and re-establish them in botanical gardens (Boophane, Brunsvigia, Crinum, Cyrtanthus, Hypoxis and countless others). So many plants have now become critically endangered or extinct in the wild due to these unsustainable practises but, I suppose this is not news...

Perhaps this post should be moved to the "Moan, moan, moan..." page!

Wow! I had to dig a little (no pun intended) but did find Rogan's Crinum stuhlmannii, referred to by Maggi, on the PBS wiki. What an amazing flower--and in abundance. I haven't messed about with the genus yet, but here's inspiration for sure!

So where are the Disas and the Crinum on the Forum? I can't find them. :'(
My previous Notify everything instruction seems not to be working and many new topics aren't getting through. Some older ones have gone as well.
