Aren't they lovely, I've ordered mine ( refers to new snowdrop forms offered in a new sales list)
Me too. Only problem from my point of view is that, because Ron's catalogues went out so early this year, I missed the chance to have some slips put in with them, telling his customers about my novel, The Snowdrop Garden, that's being published next February.
I should have contacted Ron sooner. He was happy to do it but by the time I talked to him he'd already put all the catalogues into envelopes, so now I'll have to wait till next year. At least Joe's said I can do something at the gala in February, so there's that.
Shame though. It's my first novel and it's all about snowdrop growing and the world of snowdrop collecting, so I'm sure at least a few of Ron's customers might have been interested. No real budget for advertising the novel, so this kind of word of mouth stuff and flier in catalogues stuff is my best way to get the word out about it. I need to plan things better. Always too busy writing though.
I hope none of us feature in it Martin ;D

All characters purely fictitious, and any similarity to real persons is purely coincidental, as they say. :) But seriously, no, it's all invention but set in the world of snowdrop collecting and about a unique snowdrop garden that's threatened by development. Funny, heartwarming, love interest, snowdrops, something for everyone. :D

sounds interesting Martin - even for non galantophiles ... 8)

I hope so. Snowdrop enthusiasts alone won't be enough of a readership to make it a success, but if enough snowdrop growers order it, they could help get initial sales figures off the ground and encourage the big bookshop chains to stock it and push it. I'm hoping both snowdrop people and non-snowdrop people will find it a good read, but obviously of special interest to snowdrop enthusiasts. I've been working on the final draft all Autumn. I need a break!

Hope you'll enjoy it. Did I mention the Bulgarian gangsters, the Russians on the front lawn with big guns and the recipies for Slovak traditional Christmas soup and honeybreads? As I said, something for everyone! ;D

Maggi, I assure you any similarity between the Wicked Bulb Witch Of The North character and your good self are purely coincidental and I refer you to my lawyers, Sue Grabbit and Runn.

Only joking. There is no Wicked Bulb Witch Of The North character.

Will do, Maggi. I'm sure that would help with getting it known about amongst the snowdrop-growing community (and others).

My apologies, Hagen, we are having fun with Martin about the publication of his first novel, which is set in the world of snowdrops and will be published next year.
I have taken these posts away from the original thread, which concerned the arrival of the season's first dnowdrop catalogue and which will, O hope, reduce confusion in the matter.

here is what I have found today in wikipedia :
Snowdrops in literature and other media
In Neil Gaiman's novel Stardust, Dunstan Thorn and subsequently his son Tristran carry a glass snowdrop that chimes when held. The flower has a very small, but pivotal role in the story
In the anime film Twelve Months (Sekai meisaku dowa mori wa ikiteiru in Japan), a greedy queen decrees that a basket of gold coins shall be rewarded to anyone who can bring her galanthus flowers in the dead of winter. A young girl named Anya is sent out during a snow storm by her cruel stepmother and find the spirits of the 12 months of the year, who take pity on her and not only save her from freezing to death, but make it possible for her to gather the flowers even in winter
In the manga "Snow Drop" by Choi kyung-ah, Snow Drop was the name of the book that Yo So-Na's mom wrote. The name of the four characters in the manga was taken from that book: So-na, Hae-gi, Ko-mo, Gae-Ri. In this manga, snowdrop represented hope and warmth, because of the legend it carries in Korea
Snowdrops feature in Seamus Heaney's poem Mid-term Break in the context of mourning a dead infant[13]

Maggi, I`m so hungry to read, what Martin will tell us about Snowdrops ( and I know, he`s a master of the galanthophile but also of humor). But I`m afraid I can understand only the half. That is cheerless!
