Title: Visit to Wisley
Post by: mark smyth on October 12, 2008, 09:59:19 AM
Yesterday Margaret Glynn and I visited Wisley using our extremely cheap Ryanair tickets - £2 all in if I remember right. What a day. At 4pm it was 19.5C

Good old Ryanair eh? Tireless champions of climate change.

You cant really target any airline for global change.

I started this while at work. The camera is at home with unedited photos. Some strange sights while sitting having coffee - I like my coffee but Wisley must try harder
girls out to impress
boys out to impress
unbelievable high heels
way too many children running wild - tried to push some in the lily pond! ::)
kids throwing stones in the tropical house - parents watching

I think I can have a go at Ryanair over contributing to global warming by encouraging increased flying when they're selling seats at £2 a pop. Not having a go at you, Mark.

Looking forward to the pics. Haven't been to Wisley for a few years now.

Nerine sarniensis

Wonderful document of Wisley Mark. Thanks so much.

Which camera were you using for the Nerine shots?  I have a Nikon Coolpix 8700 asnd have yet to take a decent Nerine shot with it. The reds and strong pink fade out even with an on-the-spot white balance setting. And have yet to catch the sparkle.

Although I don't fly, I believe that there is a surcharge of £3 at Norwich airport just for flying from there! ::)

Lovely series Mark - many thanks.

That birds next fungus is wonderful, and you've restarted my itch for Massonia ;) ;D ;D

Ashley photos dont show the beauty of Massonia. They have to be seen in real life.

Wisley has the best selection of bulbs for sale that I have ever seen including single named Crocus selling for about £5 each. I didnt buy any because any Crocus could be in the packet.

Fabulous photos Mark,  2pounds 'wisely' spent.  That amount would not get even get us to town in a taxi, let alone to the airport.

If the seed develops Ashley, you shall certainly have it.

I'm not promising at this stage but I don't think these would have developed at all if there were no seed inside. Time will tell. :)

Thanks very much Lesley; fingers crossed here then ;)

That does look promising I agree, but you are unlikely to get very many seed so look after your own needs first please.

Lovely pictures Mark.We called on our way back from Belgium a few weeks ago on a hot Saturday afternoon. Could not agree more with your commnents. My god what a lot of posers around the shop and cafe area. It must be the breast feeding capital of the UK on a nice day and the comments in the plant sales are amazing. The prices are sky high but money seems no object. We managed three semperviviums at £1.50 each
