Hi everyone, I have just read that there is a sub group of croconuts and I knew from Sue that there is a group of S. African bulb lovers too. I wonder if there are any more? Would it be possible to list them somewhere so SRGC members know more about them, even if they are very informal?

Christine, the "Crocus Group" can be accessed through this link:
http://www.thealpinehouse.fsnet.co.uk/crocus%20pages/
for some other societies I can only suggest a look at this links page: http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=links;cat=4
As to other informal groups, I suspect that many are like the so-called "Dwarf Bulb Group" of the SRGC..... a band of happy bulb-obsessed souls whose only collective act is their bulbous ehthusiasm.... and the chance to gather at the likes of the Early and Late Bulb Days!
If other Forumists can be more helpful.... please do let us know!!

There is a very good Trillium Group in NZ which welcomes overseas members and also a Fritillaria Group. This is less active but our intentions are to up the ante very soon.

...and I would like there to be a 'Primula Group' that wasn't an AURICULA and Primula Society, if you get my meaning.
-
Well Giles, it only takes one person (and perhaps a couple of friends) to start one. Great oaks and all that.....?
-
If there was sufficient interest, I'd give it a go.

You'd certainly have a member here.
-
...... and another here. Giles, when I get a minute I will scan and Email to you a copy of the Crocus Group Fact Sheet which will give information on that Group's structure and purpose.
-
You can count me in.

I would be very keen not to be upsetting people, so will contact Maggi after the Discussion Weekend, as to the best way to procede.
I don't want to be seen as abusing the generosity of the kind folk who provide this forum for us.
Watch this space.....

Don't forget that the Crocus Group is not a sub-group of the SRGC Forum.

A good ( Goode) point, Anthony, though I don't recall anyone saying that that was the case ???

Well, Giles, you have distressed quite a few of us by NOT being able to come to the Discussion Weekend, as had been expected!! ::) ;)
There will be no problem in the Forum hosting a Primula Group here, Giles, if you want to head that up. :) 8)

Sorry for not being able to come, but thankyou for 'permission' to put out a 'shout' for primula growers.
I'll start a new topic on the primula section.

I believe the Crocus Group started as an offshoot of the British Iris Society?
-
Surely not an offshoot Lesley, as that would be a clone! ::) Would have to be a seedling. ;D
-
Let's say a sport then. :)
-
Excellent. I like it. ;D
-
I rather like the "sport" description. Works well. Although one could be a bit harsher and call it a mutated offshoot? ;) :o
;D ;D ;D
