Title: New Dactylorhiza hybrid
Post by: Gerhard Raschun on September 19, 2008, 07:52:03 PM
Here are the first pict of my new Dactylorhiza hybrid.

It is the cross of Dact. coccinea (Irland) and Dact. foliosa (Madeira endemic).

A great number of seedlings have flowered in the first season out of flask.

With good Irish blood it is, of course, an excellent plant.

Really, a lovely plant. Well done on raising it.

Gerhard, this is very promising, that they are flowering so soon, isn't it? Lovely colour to the flower. 8)

This year the flowering plants reach highs up to 20 cm.But it is the first year exflask, and I hope plants will show taller and more flowers-number in the next season !

approx. 20 seedlings have flowered in the first year. But it wasn`t possible to recognized any variance in flowers. That isn`t usual for the hybrids of the genus.

Wow!  20 seedling flowering identically is very unusual for a hybrid isn't it?  Maybe because this is a primary hybrid they are so similar, but I guess that crossing these seedlings would result in lots more variability though as the grand-parental genes were expressed in different ways?  It is beautiful, and you would now be able to make a stunning display of it. ;)  Of course, I expect that you were thinking you'd see more differences?
