Title: Primula albenensis
Post by: Giles on September 13, 2008, 09:17:35 PM
I would be grateful if any of you know where I can get this primula (seeds or plants).
Although there is a listing in The Plantfinder the plant stocked (and supplied to me) doesn't look at all right.
Do any of you have the 'real thing'?
I gather there are 'blue', 'apricot' and 'white' forms.
I hope you can help,
Giles

For a start, Giles, have a look at the entries brought up by a search of the Forum... there are quite a few pix of good albenensis plants there to give you a better idea of what your plant should look like!
Those I have seen are a rather lovely blue.

I looked back at the original articles both in the AGS journal, and the article by the Taylors in the SRGC journal, when it was still a 'new' primula,
and they both show a marginata-like plant with heavy farina. As does John Richards' book.
The thing I've got is a massive thing with 8" long leaves, no-way an 'albenensis'.
It wasn't listed in either the SRGC or AGS seed exchanges last year. The only source I've found is seed from Josef Jurasek, and he has never
answered any of my emails (I've tried throughout the year).
It might be time to do some focused begging letters(!)

(The orange form was on one of the auricula websites)

Giles,
you can buy true albenensis, recubariensis and grignensis in Germany (nursery in Chemnitz)- I hope so.
Yes, I have 10 seeds.

Thankyou for the information.
I sent off to Gerd Stopp today, for a catologue with some International Reply Coupons.
Are you able to spare the seeds?
I'll pm you my address (!) just in case (!)

PS Does Gerd Stopp have an email address?
I could find his snail mail address on the web, but nothing about email.
