Post by: Hans J on August 05, 2008, 09:55:17 AM
Dober Dan ,

with some deley is here a little report from our last trip from the mountains of Slovenia ( Julian Alps ) – our target was the Triglav National Parc.
We drive via Munich-Salzburg-Villach-Wurzenpass and reach Kranska Gora – from there we drive via the Vrisic pass to the Soca Valley – we stay there tree days in Trenta .
Our first walk on next day was from Vrisic pass ( 1611 m –it is the highest pass from Slovenia ) to the Slemenova Spice – sorry no pics .
On next day we walk from the Soca source high to the Vrisic pass and back – here some pics :

from Trenta we move via the Soca valley to Lake Bohinji and we found there in Ukanc a nice room .
It was from wether not always possibly to go high on the mountains -but we could make walks on lower altitude -p.e. we go aound the Lake Bohinji :

here are some plants which we found on the margin of this lake :

Interesting is here grows two Helleborus side by side -one is Hell. niger -the other could be Hell. multifidus ssp. istriacus - but I wait for the comments of the Helleborus specialists ( may be Tim Murphy can help ) ...if you see a plant without flowers so it is always difficould ....

We saw also many of Cyclamen purpurascens in flowers - but nothing really spectacular ....I can not see any big differences to plants from other locations ( it is sometimes called Lake Bled form ) some plants which flowers more on sunny places has a little darker flowers - but other which grow in the shade has more light pink flowers ....

the house ( called Dom in slovenian ) is on a altitude of 1000 m ......but the top of Triglav is 2864 m ......

Hans
What is the distance around Lake Bled, and how long was your walk - discounting the time for a cake  stop.

I think the Cyclamen purpurascens 'Lake Bled' form is to do with the leaf patterning - to me it resembles a ring of 'bubbles' around the edge.

Thaanks for all the wonderful pictures - maybe I need to get fit and walk more.

Arthur :

You have to walk around 2 -3 hours -depending how many pics you make and how many cake you will eat ...

To the Cyc. purpurascens - there was nothing special on the leaves -you can found here from pattern until normal leaves - but never I saw any silver leaves !

For Maggi :
Is this not a perfect day : To walk in the morning around lake Bled and to watch in the afternoon the "Tour de France ( the stage with Alpe d' Huez ) and eating  "Kremeschnitte " ?

Oh, yes, Hans, this MUST be the perfect day indeed!
But I think that this whole trip must be one of the best I have enjoyed here.... the scenery is lovely, from an area that I do not know at all so that is so exciting....  8) 8)

I have only a little worry that Barbara is standing too close to what seems to me to be a cliff in one picture ....... :o

Hans, needless to say but once again nice pics of interesting plants and landscapes.
If the shrub mentioned above was seen in a garden or park it might be Viburnum plicatus.

Hans was based in Bled on the south side of the mountain range. Several years ago we based ourselves in Kranski Gora on the north side of the range. Both are tourist villages with excellent acces to the mountains. I can recommend a holiday in either resort.
