Title: Tufa rock sources
Post by: ian mcenery on July 11, 2008, 03:54:34 PM
I am hoping to extend my tufa/scree bed and am looking for a smallish quantity of Tufa. Does anyone have a source please?

PS I have seen the advert in the AGS bulletin but I have been told that Derbyshire tufa is hard and less suitable for planting - would welcome any views

Ian,

If you go to 'Search' & type in Tufa , then look for 'The last source', open 'admin April 7 2008', this gives pretty good reasons for not using tufa.

The tufa I'm using was bought for my marine fish tank 20 years ago. Then aquatic stockists sold it by the kilo.

Last year bought two large pieces (18"x18"x10") for £1.20 from a pet shop in Biggar. For such small quantities fish/pet stockists are a good bet. A well-known garden-centre near Edinburgh wanted £5 per piece!
