Title: Soldanella

Hello,

I have two questions regarding soldanella:

1) I read somewhere that some species of soldanella like limestone. Could anyone give me some examples of it?
2) Is Soldanella samnitica the same as Soldanella minima?

Wim, I have read the same many times in books.
But I think that the reality is different. Those Soldanella growing on limestone mountains
are growing mostly in a thin layer of turf where all the eventual lime around the roots
is washed out.
One should better speak of some Soldanella species which tolerate a little lime instead of
Soldanella species needing lime!
In my opinion giving extra lime will kill them.

But if there are specialists who think I am writing rubbish, I would be happy
they convince me it's different

Wim,

I agree with Luit it is correct what he wrote over the Soldanella.

Soldanella samnitica is a subspecies of S. minima.

Corolla broadly campanulate, divided to a quarter of its length
S. minima subsp. minima

Corolla narrowly campanulate, divided to a fifth of its length
S. minima subsp. samnitica

Luit and Franz: thanks for the info. I was going to try to grow it in a piece of tufa but that's not a good idea.
