Carsten, that is a very interesting show! It is a pity that it is so far away (1074km).

Hepatica japonica Yumegokoti
Carsten, nice to see some Hepatica's in flower. Here the days are still very dark.
-
Carsten, lovely Hepaticas again. It is nice how you can extend your Hepatica season when you have the first flowers in the greenhouse,
and the last ones in open ground. :)
-
I can't make it to Vienna - unfortunately...
-
Today, finally some more sun!
Hepatica transsilvanica 'Blumenstadt Erfurt', one month later than last year!
-
On Friday it was 16°C and sunny, so the garden came more to life.
Hepatica nobilis 'Cremar'
Hepatica transsilvanica 'Loddon Blue'
Hepatica transsilvanica 'Winterfreude'
Hepatica nobilis var. pubescens ex 'Hohobeni' 21019

How nice that you have gotten warm days and Hepaticas are flowering.
Is 'Loddon Blue' a lot bluer than other transsilvanicas?
Your H.pubescens is so pretty. :) Very similar to mine.

Leena, Loddon Blue opens darker and becomes lighter blue and bigger than other transsilvanica.

Herman, thanks for the picture. It shows well how much bigger 'Loddon Blue' is. I have only nameless transsilvanicas, which are all quite similar to each other.
-
Beautiful Hepaticas Herman! So nice to have them flowering in February!
I noticed with my H. transsilvanica plants - all grown from seeds- that there is variation in the flower size. Luckily the flowers are larger than for example the plant I got from forumist Kris, which is a very nice form anyway.
-
Hepatica americana var. acuta (pink) sown in 2021.
Hepatica nobilis var. insularis sown in 2021.
Hepatica falconeri (silverleaf) from Jürgen Peters.

Arthur, that looks very promising!

The nights are still below freezing, but during the day it is very sunny and the temperature rises above 10°C. The flowers of the Hepatica's in the garden love that.

Herman, you have a nice multipetal white nobilis. :)
Carsten's double Hepaticas are so special, congratulations.
Here first Hepaticas are showing colour in open garden. Pictures are from day before yesterday, but last night we got snow again and temperatures are below freezing. I have now dry leaves and spruce brances over the Hepatica buds to protect them.

Hepatica americana from northern Minnesota, USA. Can you guess what the mulch is?
[attachimg=1]
This is at the base of a Chinese Dragon spruce (Picea asperata). The squirrels take the spruce cones, sit under the tree and remove and discard all the cone scales to get to the seeds. It's a truly squirrel-made (and very attractive) mulch!

Rick, very nice photo!
-
Yes, very beautiful!!!!
Millstream Merlin has been blooming for weeks, even though I didn't plant the sections until 2024.
The acutiflora also delights me.
-
And here it is in full bloom. Last year the rabbit had eaten all the flowerbuds, so it had energy to burn!
[attachimg=1]
-
Boahhh....
-
Rick
How old would the plant be?
-
I planted it there 8 years ago as a plant with 2 or 3 growing points. It is growing under a Picea asperata, only about 45cm away from the trunk with the lowest branches 6 ft up. It is incredibly dry there and I don't water it. And until 2 years ago, the only mulch it had was very thin from the fallen spruce needles. Perhaps that extra mulching of cone scales has contributed to its grandeur.
