Title: Oresitrophe - where to grow?
Post by: arisaema on July 15, 2024, 10:34:55 AM
I have a couple of Oresitrophe rupifraga that should be planted, but I'm struggling with just how tolerant they are of garden conditions? Edrom lists is as a woodlander and Gerdk posted pictures of it in his rock garden - and in nature it grows on vertical limestone cliffs that are bone dry in winter...

The plants are currently potted up in almost pure moler cat litter and seem to be doing fine in half shade, but how tolerant are they of winter wet? Options would be dry semi-shade in sloping clayey loam under a fig, alongside a Mukdenia; optionally in full sun in almost pure sand; or in a brighter spot with far more moisture year round.

This species does well here in halfshade. I planted it in a horizontal fissure of a wall (built by limestone rocks). Does not seem difficult given this conditions. Don't be surprisd by the quite large leaves after flowering.
