Here's an interesting talk about tulip taxonomy & conservation in Central Asia by Brett Wilson, based on his PhD thesis at Univ Cambridge & hosted by the Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland (BSBI).

A relative of the genus tulipa : Amana baohuanensis from China
-
Very nice to see Luc :)
I'm only familiar with A. edulis.
-
Thanks ashley for Brett Wilson 's talk. Very interesting indeed. I'm looking forward to read the publication with the phylogeny. The position adopted seems quite conservative.

Tulipa talijevii from Kazakhstan
-
Tulipa systola from Iran

Some more "whites"
Tulipa biflora
Tulipa subbiflora
-
Tulipa binutans
Tulipa orythioides
-
Tulipa brachystemon and the red form of Tulipa zenaidae
-
Very nice, Luc!
Are those Amanas grown the same way as tulips or do they need a more moist environment?
My tulips are all grown outdoors so they will need a couple of weeks to flower but most leaves are out and everything is looking good. I am now at 30m2 of densely packed pots, next season it will probably be 40m2.

Amanas are in the same mix but get a little bit of water during dormancy. Same as tulipa humilis.

A few firsts among the species from seed.
Tulipa kaufmanniana

Tulipa tschimganica (x)
Tulipa kaufmanniana
Tulipa cretica Mnt. Dikti form

Thank you, Luc, for posting your gorgeous pictures of tulips. I've enjoyed seeing them all. The picture of T. cretica Mt. Dikti form is quite eye-catching.

Talking about cretica, another form very high compared to all others i grow.
Tulipa kaufmanniana 'Gracija'
-
I've had two Tulips here for over 20 years in the NE USA.
I think I've confused them and I think I have it correct now.
Tulipa ferganica and Tulipa altatica.
They are quite similar.
T. altatica flowers a bit earlier than T. fergana.
T. ferganaica has downy tips on the flower petals.
A confirmation would be very helpful.

Tulip batalini 'Bright Gem'

Tulipa 'Garant' in my garden - a very reliable long lasting cultivar, this is its 7th season.
Even if your taste is more for the graceful/botanical varieties, for sheer spectacle you can't beat tulips. I've just been to the walled garden at Houghton Hall in Norfolk where the tulips have real impact at the moment;

Lovely photos Gail 8)
This has been an exceptionally good spring for tulips, due to the cool weather and lack of storms.

Better to admire it in the wild than in pot!

Great photo, Frazer, we look forward to seeing the rest!!

I bought this Tulip from Augis bulbs last autumn, it was called T.sprengeri aff.
I planted it in woodland bed like I would T.sprengeri, but I think that was a wrong place and it would prefer a dryer spot.
It flowers about two weeks earlier than T.sprengeri, leaves are different colour and flower is bigger.
Last picture is my T.sprengeri grown from seeds.
