Cyclamen coum
This patch has been here for many years. At first they all had plain leaves and crimson flowers but now there are a lot of marked leaves and one or two pink flowers appearing. Most years they get eaten by deer.
[attachimg=1]
These two flowers on Cyclamen purpurascens have lasted nearly 2 months. Both were open on November 24th and only in the last couple of days has one faded.

Cyclamen creticum which i stored until january in the greenhouse and then outside in semi shade. This year is great for most cyclamens.

Very nice carpets with C. coum and caucasicum Herman.
I failed few times with it, don't know why. It probably doesn't like to remain under snow for so long?...
C. persicum
Is this the 'pure' species Ashley? Here C. persicum is sold as a house plant usually in Dec.- Jan. There are now so many forms, hard to say if they are hybrids or C. persicum per se. But they are great to have in the winter.
A new form which was offered two years ago for the first time is particularly long flowering; the picture showed was taken in January and is still in flower now.

Is this the 'pure' species Ashley?
I'll answer before Ashley: yes. 99% of the persicum in the trade are hybrids or selections.

It looks like it. Seed came from the Cyclamen Society exchange in 2003, but I have no provenance beyond that.

Thanks Yann and Ashley. I was just curious.
They are great as house plants, and I tried but didn't managed to keep the corms alive for too long.
-
A seedling with a flame-colouring, C. repandum, I think.

Was looking at my cyclamen hederifolium bed, and noticed this flower. Could it be a hederifolium x
purpurascens cross? Plant has no leaves showing.
Picked a hederifolium flower to show the differences.

The cyclamen season is well ahead this year with the drought, the few rains we had triggered most of the bulbs.
Cyclamen graecum i really must repot, it's almost cracking the pot. May other specimens are in the garden and don't need any special care nor they fear the wet winters.
-
Loving that cyclamen bursting out of it's pot Yann!
It's the same here up 'north' and Cyclamen africanum is looking particularly crisp this year (outside all year uncovered).

That's a nice one Stefan.
I have something similar here in the garden, grown from seed received from Jan Bravenboer some years ago.
Last spring I was also pleased to receive some seed ex 'Red Sky' from the SRGC exchange that germinated well.
Time will tell whether the colour is distinct from these dark purples.

Maggi, that was the perfect Fall day for cyclamen.
I'm wondering if anyone knows, a few plants of my hederifolium have a fragrance, most of the plants don't. Just wondering why that is?
Next years project is to get these Purpurascens seedlings replanted in a new bed.
These were from last year, so almost a year old. I have seeds still from seed I collected this year, if anyone is interested in trade. I would be looking for Pulsatilla, Hepatica, Eranthis , Adonis.

Guff, Cyclamen hederifolium ssp crassifolium, is a subspecies of Cyclamen hederifolium from the Greek Peloponnese, has a fragrance.
-
Herman thanks.
I think I recall buying hederifolium ssp crassifolium seeds.
Just curious, did you buy your Purpurascens Alba? Wondering how much they cost over there? I had bought seed from Jan, years ago. I have 13 plants under lights, from last years seed. Probably should plant them out.
Made a bed for Purpurascens Alba seeds. It will be interesting to see how many pop up. I counted out 400 seeds and planted them 2 inches apart. Just a temporary bed. I had about 30 seeds last year for 13 plants.
Purpurascens Alba seedlings are starting to show 10/8/2022

Guff, I bought C. purpurascens f. album in 2017 from Jan Bravenboer, a few weeks before his death.

You have a wonderful plant to remind you of Jan.
Years ago, 10-15, maybe even longer. (I really don't remember), but I regret not getting the seeds. He had a special Coum and I don't even recall what it looked like but it was so different. Maybe it had swirled colors mixed or bi color petals.
I'm also curious about how the dark purple hederifolium came about? I think my very dark purple died, but still have a nice red.

Guff,
In 2015 I visited Jan's garden. Never have I seen so many different Cyclamen in one garden. It was an impressive collection.
The following Cyclamen in our garden came from Jan:
Cyclamen colchicum
Cyclamen confusum
Cyclamen confusum ex pink /red
Cyclamen coum f. album
Cyclamen hederifolium extreme dark red purple flower
Cyclamen hederifolium narrow leaf
Cyclamen hederifolium narrow silver leaf
Cyclamen hederifolium 'Purple Rain'
Cyclamen hederifolium ssp crassifolium from Zakynthos
Cyclamen intaminatum patterned leaf
Cyclamen intaminatum plain leaf
Cyclamen intaminatum f. roseum plain leaf
Cyclamen intaminatum f. roseum patterned leaf
Cyclamen libanoticum
Cyclamen purpurascens silver leaf

Looked through pictures of dark purple hederifolium that I had saved, and this was the best of the dark purple plants that I had. Most were different shades of a darker pink, and some reds. I think I lost this one. Pictures are from 2011.

Cyclamen rohlfsianum from seeds collected in Lybia, this species is a bit tricky to grow but it worth the learning curve of the watering regime.
[attachimg=1]
-
Some years ago I got Cyclamen purpurascens corms from a kind forumist :). Plants are doing well here, even after last difficult winter (when I lost all C.coum plants), and flowered in July-August.
Here are some nice leaves couple of days ago.
-
Hello Yann. Please could you enlighten me on the watering regime for C. rolfsianum as I have 1 year old seedling and its leaf has yellowed? Thanks
Erle in Anglesey
-
Hi Erle,
Here are some pictures and observations of my C. rohlfsianum- possibly my favourite species.
In general, it should be left to bake and only gets water when the first signs of life are showing- flower buds, or emerging leaves
[attach=1]
emerging life from not watered corm
A younger plant got watered earlier in the season when I was watering the tomatoes, and it sprang into life:
[attach=2]
My oldest plant ( from seed from chiltern seeds in 2009?) started with one early flower:
[attach=3]
I then watered everything because all species are bursting with flower and life. A 5 year old tuber after one watering:
[attach=4]
My seedlings have not yet emerged. I usually water the bone dry pots now (October-or when everything else shows that it is time to grow) and see what happens; they live on the drier end of the spectrum. I guess that if you already had a leaf, and it has yellowed, it started a bit early and has been quite wet. If the tuberlet has no leaf to evaporate it needs to dry out so no water at all. I would leave the pot well away from damp and see if anything emerges next October.
hope this helps!
-
Thank you Bart. I will do as you suggest.
I think some of my cyclamen tubers got too hot in the greenhouse this year although they were under a table. The smaller pots have been very slow to get going.

Your C. rohlfsianum are as lovely as ever, Roma - but, tell us the truth now, you washed that C. graecum in Daz, didn't you?!! ;D :o
-
It is rather lovely isn't it. I am just thrilled to flower Cyclamen graecum in a minimally heated greenhouse in NE Scotland.

Yup, well done on that!

Hello dear forum members! If someone can help with explanations on how to import these and other plants from my personal collection into the Republic of Turkey, I will be very grateful!
-
I am aware that Cyclamen hederifolium leaves can grow to 18cm; I was chuffed that this plant has a growing leaf of 15.5cm and other leaves of 14 and 12 cm.
-
Hederifolium dark purple. This plant is from the batch of seedlings that come from Jan's seed. Not really purple and not pink. Nice strong shade though.
[attachimg=1]
Making some progress on my Purpurascens Alba seed bed. These seem to germinate slow. Out of 400 seeds, around 20 seedlings are above ground. I did plant them deeper then normal, due to up heaving during winter.
[attachimg=2]
I did plant out some of my Purpurascens Alba seedlings that I had under lights. Put them at the bottom of Purpurascens Alba seed bed.

Hello Mariana,
Welcome- and what a fantastic leaf on that first photo! Can you please tell us a bit more?- is it hederifolium or persicum? Do you get seed from it? Where did it come from?
I can not help you with your query unfortunately.
Good luck in finding out!
