This week we visited the yearly Peony Show at the Keukenhof Castle.
This castle lies opposite from the famous Keukenhof Flowershow but this garden
is during the whole year open for public.
The area in front of the castle is during the Flowershow used as parking for coaches
and it's difficult to visit the garden.
The castle was built in 1642 by Adriaen Maertenszoon Block, a former Commander of
United East Indian Company’ (V.O.C.) on the Moluccan islands.
Since then there lived several owners on the castle till in 1837 Baron van Pallandt and his wife acquired it.
For one of their children, son Frederik, they built a so called Play House in a new walled garden in 1849.
The boy was probably autistic and lived in this small house together with a governess.
Since the last owner died in 2003 the castle is under exploitation by the Stichting (Trust) Kasteel Keukenhof, and used for wedding- and other parties.
First I show some pictures of the castle and one of the view over the fields from the castle.
Then some pictures of flower arrangements when coming into the walled garden, where the Peony Show
was held in and around the Play House.

My goodness, I never saw so many peonies.... not even Hans J. has this many, I think ::) ;)
The display pots so are fresh and different, most original , great to see this.
Stunning arrangements, too. Would be great for a wedding, eh? I think I could live happily in the castle, too 8)

Luit,
Do you have a picture of the peony Command performance?
No, did not see it or look for. But it's something like Diana Parks.
Should have a "bomb" flower, not flat.

I have seen it already in full flow at my neighbours, who won the first price at the castle Keukenhof for the biggest peony ever. And it is really BIG and beautiful.

A magnificent place Luit and a fabulous show. Thanks so much for all your pictures.

More marvelous marvel :)
With a name like "bowl of cream" I would have expected a different colour.
-
Wonderful pictures Luit, they reminded me of our trips to Estonia where every garden we visited had at least one peony and Tallin Botanic Garden had a huge collection. What a pity they take up so much space.

Luit,
In your message of 31st of May you have a picture of a peony which you called Louise.
From the picture it could well have been : Cora Louise. This is an intersectional peony= a cross between a herbaceous peony and a tree peony, and like the 'famous' Bartzella also made by Roger Anderson.

Yes André, I was thinking about that too, but I wasn't sure.
I couldn't find a picture of Cora Louise to make a proper compare, so I left
the name which was at the plant in the show.

So many beauties! I love Paeonies since my childhood. Thank you for the show, Luit.
