Isn't it fascinating how rock garden exhibits continue to rack up gold medals at major shows, yet we seem to have trouble interesting younger gardeners in our small jewels.........hmmmmm

Well done to all again.
Is there anyone going there from the Aberdeen or Moray area?
I am stuck offshore again this year and I was wondering if someone will buy me some plants and I will pick them up and pay for them when I get back in a few weeks time.
Carol and David Shaw kindly obliged last year but they can't make it this year.

Martin, I think even in deepest Derbyshire you could perhaps watch the Beechgrove Garden on the BBC website....we can here in Scotland.
Jim Jermyn, Gardening Scotland Show Manager ( and SRGC Member!) said very nice things about the SRGC Stand this morning when he was interviewed on Radio.
It was interesting tio see the Beechgrove team do their best to make a competition out of the SRGC versus Kevock Gardens ..... Ian Christie sportingly played along with them but, as Stella Rankin of Kevock said, "we are SRGC Members, we think their stand is great too, we've been swapping plants!"
Both won a Gold medal and Kevock was also awarded the best exhibit in the Floral hall . It was great to see President Ian, the Christie kind, interviewed, mentioning that this is the SRGC 75th Anniversary year. Stella and David Rankin got some good publicity too, unusual for the BBC, and they were shown chatting with Rod Leeds (former president of the AGS and another SRGC Member) who was on the judging panel. Rod was part of the AGS display team at Chelsea, of course.

The show looks lovely, with lots of colour in the floral hall but I believe that there are actually fewer show gardens than the organisers hoped for. Karen Laing, from Aberdeen, who made her RHS show debut recently at Malvern, where she won a silver medal, has remade that garden at Ingliston and has won a Silver-gilt... and also the Best Show Garden.....which makes me think that there were no Gold medal Show Gardens outside. Great news for Karen, an artist/teacher turned garden designer to have this success.....we in Aberdeen are very pleased for her!

Well done to all the SRGC Gang for this Gold medal success!
Well done to Tom for capturing such a good photo from the TV!
I have recorded the show so I can look again at leisure!

Typical, no sign of Beechgrove Garden in the BBC  "watch again" listings at the moment! It may appear later this week... I'll let you know.  :-\

Friday this week, but normally Wednesdays at 7.30. We had visitors yesterday and I was only aware I'd missed it when heard the end when the children switched the TV on in their sitting room.

I discover that the RHSA ( Royal Horticultural Society Aberdeen) have won a Silver -Gilt medal for their entry in the Pallet Garden section... well done !!

Thanks Maggi, as usual the obvious answer. I have the i-player software but didn't think to use it for such a sensible purpose. More likely to be used for missed Dr Who episodes :)

Thanks Mark but I don't have, or want, Sky. Enough rubbish on the 4 channels I can get without paying for loads more. Probably give me crap reception anyway. Satellites only just above the horizon in our little valley with a thick deciduous wood in the way as well, no terrestrial digital signal and a dodgy basic signal from a booster transmitter that gives us 4 reasonable channels as long as our amplifier is working!

Sorry, didn't mean to go off on one about TV reception. I'm off to watch the B.G. before Dr Who comes on.

B.G. has been watched. Very good, especially when they grab a judge, albeit one known to be 'friendly', and get an explanation of how they do the job. I was particularly taken by the featuring of Arisaemas and the pallet gardens. That's a brilliant and affordable idea.

Well done the SRGC and very nice to see some excellent celmisias. I think all you Scots grow them so much butter than we do, or at least those of us who live near the coast. They obviously like your cooler, moister climate. :)

A message from Stan da Prato, concerning a Gold Medal winning exhibit in the "Pallet Garden" section......
Quote
Good morning
I am still trying to master the procedure for posting pics on the forum - in
the  mean time is this of interest? -it's the North Berwick in Bloom pallet
I put together showing in miniature how we are restoring an Edwardian
rockery in NB which was constructed as a series of stone compartments and
paths - Edinburgh Botanic rock garden was like this from 1871-1914.
This year's  pallet won a gold medal as did the two previous  years which
used small plants in fish box troughs

Damn. All these times of listening to Potting Shed and what happens when there is a particulary exciting one - Carol & David are outside potting up the 2008 crocus harvest! Have just come in for lunch.

OK, Maggie, Carol found it for me and we have been listening to the great man himself ;)

Must say that I was also impressed with Stan's garden on a pallet. Nobody can now say that their garden is too smallfor a rockery.

Ah, but thanks to the BBC website we have now listened to the Potting Shed :) Well done Ians' Y & C for promoting the SRGC so well there can be little doubt that listening to you to blethering away has raised the profile of the club considerably! Excellent PR job  :-*

At last some pictures of the SRGC Stand.
I did not get as many pictures as I would have liked because so there were so many people to chat with which made for a busy but vey fun weekend.

President Ian Christie has every reason to be smiling and happy.
The Joint rock heavy weights gather.
Joint Rock Chairman Sandy Leven reclines to comment.
Joint Rock Secretary Carole Bainbridge has a mammoth task ahead of her as we assess over 30 plants.
The committee have the easy task of making the descisions which includes a lot of laughter.

What a marvellous show. Thanks to nurseries and picture takers alike, and especially to everyone involved with the SRGC exhibit. It's amazing!

In the top two Kevock pics, is that Primula reidii at the front? They look disgustingly fat and healthy. :P

It is indeed Primula reidii, Lesley.
In this pic you can see it better, also the lovely glass bowl that is the RCHS President's prize  and the Gold medal card and the Certificate, signed by President Ian the Christie kind, SRGC, for the Alf Evans Award.

The Rankins' smiles are as wide as is humanly possible, aren't they ?! 8)
Obviously an award which is very much appreciated as well as being well-deserved!
