Title: Tiny plant, glossy leaves, and finally, a flower
Post by: Claire Cockcroft on June 23, 2020, 09:57:40 PM
I picked up this plant at the Pat Calvert Greenhouse at the Washington Park Arboretum several years ago.  It has grown slowly and finally rewarded me with flowers.

It is evergreen, 7 cm tall.  Leaves are about 1 cm long, and the flowers are half that.  I think it's a cutie.  Now I'd like to know its name!

Well, it pays to know the right people.  David Palmer answered my email already:

Looks like Vaccinium oxycoccus (now Oxycoccus macrocarpon), the form called 'Hamilton'. This is a tight little grower as opposed to the regular Cranberry. A form selected by the late Jim Cross, nurseryman from New York.

One  of the  most  charming  little  members  of  the  ericaceae! I love  it's  tiny  flowers which are  not  very  freely  produced  in  our  garden, I'm sorry to  say.
