Title: unique petal shape in south of France

This is growing in the hills of southern France, near where the famiily of my Canadian friends live.

I assume it is currently in flower.

Star clover, Trifolium stellatum. These are the spent flowers/seed heads with the sepals making up most of the structure.

Thank you, Matt.  I have told my friend.

It was such an exotic looking flower that I couldn't think of anything it could be.  If we couldn't find a name, I suggested we could call it Starfish Flower.

Trifolium stellatum  ;) a common annual plant of the mediterranean area
