Congratulations and thank you to Jo and Brian Walker for hosting a fantastic show today at Malvern. It's a very long day for exhibitors and helpers. Staging starts for the early birds at 6 am and the show finishes at 6 pm.
A few general pictures of the benches to give the flavour. More tomorrow.

My goodness, look at those benches, groaning under the weight of all those good plants! What a lovely sight... every bit as mouthwatering as the prospect of your very own ice cream kiosk, right next to the show benches.... now that's what I call clever organisation by the show secretaries! We should all be taking a leaf out of the Walkers' book to emulate this display and with ancillary refreshments! FAB!
Dreadfully long day, though... you'd need all the help and ice cream you could get to cope ;)

Show Secretary Jo Walker in centre (with post-leg-op crutches used to order her team around) discussing tactics with Lee Martin (left) and Clive Brotherton (right)
The Farrer medal (best plant in the show) was won by - Podophyllum delavayi - shown by Cecilia Coller. Cecilia, as always, brought an incredible load of plants, her white van packed three shelves deep with dozens of plants. She won the Aggregate Cup for the Open Section, as well as the large 6 pan class.

Wonderful Farrer plant! I love it, to match those leaves with those flowers... yummy. Wish the plants in the garden looked that good. I have great respect for Cecilia Coller.
By the way, some pics from Rob of the Midlands, of Malvern show stand of Butterfield's Pleione stand here...page 15 of pleione strand...

Poor Jo, not much fun to be a show sec in a wheelchair... Carole Bainbridge said she didn't recommend it!
Hope you in the Lunch Club brought/bought her something tasty??
-
Thanks Diane for posting these lovely images...you must have been so sleepy after rising at 4.30am!!!
Can't wait to see the rest tomorrow.
-
Oh God!!! That fabulous Podophyllum delavayi!!! It gets bigger and brighter and BETTER with every outing!!!

Actually, Jo rose to the occasion (literally, on her crutches ;D ) and seemed to enjoy herself, organising everyone by waving her crutches round in quite a scary way.
Sadly, the lunch club does not convene at Malvern, due to the northern members finding the day too long on top of a long journey. I assume they are all in training for next weeks re-enactment of the Pudsey Pig - to be redesignated, possibly for this year only, as The Southport Sow (due to Leeds/Pudsey show not being held this year)

I took a fairly random selection of pictures yesterday
Firstly, from the sublime to the ridiculous
Trillium grandiflorum fl pl shown by Ivor Betteridge was awarded a Certificate of Merit
Not for the faint hearted: Helicodiceros muscivoros (labelled with its old name of Dracunculus muscivorus)

I went to Malvern on Friday, so I missed the AGS show yesterday.
Here are some pics of the Best Award winning display by Edrom Nursery (Terry and Cath)
-
There was a Podophyllum delavayi on one of the displays in the marquee which looks a little different to the Farrer winning plant above.

Diane,
What an interesting intersectional hybrid! Can you tell me a little bit about its origin?
Who did the cross?

I'm investigating this one with the grower, Gerd and will post when I find out.

Wonderful diversipilosum Diane.
For you ledumphiles the work of Kristian Theqvist in Finland may be of interest. He has crossed them with some interesting rhododendron species.
