Title: Pruhonice (near Prague)
Post by: Katherine J on May 08, 2008, 01:54:02 PM
Hello Everybody,
I also visited Prague show this year, and my pics are showing almost the same things as Krzysztof's, so I thought I wouldn't bore you with them. BUT I also visited Pruhonice, and I'll show you this. It is a little town (village?) near Prague and has two places which deserve to visit: A castle with a huge park (not the castle is interesting but the park), and a Botanical garden (?) - I'd rather call it a horticultural showing garden. This is in a half-made phase, but is very promising.

So, first the castle park. As you can see, the weather wasn't too good, almost no sunshine at all. :(

And the other day the "Botanical Garden" (with more sunshine :)):

Kathrine, I've often heard from Pruhonice.
Glad to see your pictures. Thank you very much!  :D

Your pic. nr. 9 in the first batch might be Rodgersia aesculifolia.

Kata, lovelypictures from your trip, thank you!
In your first photo I think that very nice plant in the foreground is Rhodora canadensis ( Rhododendron canadense),  which is not seen around very much, though it is a real beauty.

I agree with Luit that the plant in No. 9 is a Rodgersia, but I don't know which species :-[

Hi Kata !
Very nice pix of what seems a very nice place.
Pruhonice seems like a name to write down on the waiting list for future visits... if I get in the area sometime...  :-\
Thanks very much for showing us.  :D

Thank you all forr your comments and identifying.Sincerely I thought about Rodgersia, but couldn't remember the name. ::)

Maggi,
what are the characteristics of Rhododendron canadense? How can you see on that picture that it is that?

This delightful rhododendron is deciduous... I can see the new leaves just emerging in the photo, they are the correct shape .... the growth is quite "twiggy".... so when the leaves are not there the bush is still pretty in a filigree sort of way...... the flowers are correct shape and colour... they are open, rather feathery looking,( not full bell shaped at all).... the stamens exert  and give  further feathery, "fluffy"  appearance....not very technical description  :-[, but perhaps you will understand ?? :D :)
