With the Corona Virus pandemic causing events to be cancelled or postponed across the world, we must expect that news of which events will remain on the calendar to take place to change rapidly
We will advise here of changes to SRGC events, as decided either by government or SRGC decision.
A couple of nurseries expected to attend the Kendal Show today pulled out from the event - this will be happening everywhere in the next while.
Whether or not nurseries decide to withdraw from any events, or the events themselves are cancelled, please bear in mind that these specialist nurseries do not have an easy time of business at the best of times, and many will lose substantial percentages of their income because of this situation, as I have just been reading about on Facebook from Tonkin's Nursery in Australia. Without these nurseries we would also lose out in a major fashion as hobby growers - saving the nurseries is definitely in our own interest!
Be kind - use mail order where you can!

"From Dave Millward, Convener of Show Secretaries:
The Edinburgh show, set for Saturday 4th April 2020 has been cancelled. This follows the latest advice issued by government regarding the current Covid-19 pandemic. We were all looking forward to a good spring show at Fairmilehead and we are sad to have to take this action, but it is for the best I'm sure.
With the cancellation of the Edinburgh show, all the Scottish spring shows and the joint AGS/SRGC show in Hexham will not now take place. A decision on the autumn events will be made later in the year when we have more up to date information.
Unfortunately, the cancellation of the shows programme will have significant financial consequences for the nurseries who provide us with such a wonderful range of plants for showing and for our gardens. Though we will not be able to visit their stalls at shows, can I encouarge all of us to consider ordering plants from those nurseries that have mail-order or alternative arrangements. Please visit their websites to see what 'goodies' are available.
I hope all members will stay well and do enjoy your gardens this spring."

David Boyd SRGC Event in Mull -previously planned for May 2020.
Due to the Corona virus crisis the David Boyd Event in Mull has been cancelled. We are grateful to all those who had expressed interest on supporting the event.
It is hoped that we can organise another trip to Mull in the future.
As you are all no doubt aware, the situation with Coronavirus is rapidly changing, and the advice is changing accordingly. We know that this is a worrying time for everyone and have taken this decision to protect our members and do our part in flattening the COVID-19 curve through social-distancing measures.

CANCELLATION - GARDENING SCOTLAND 2020 19th March 2020
"Following the latest Government advice surrounding measures to combat the spread of Coronavirus, we have no option but to cancel Gardening Scotland 2020.
This would have been our 21st anniversary show and preparations for it were well advanced, however the safety of our visitors, exhibitors, volunteers, contractors and staff must always be our first priority and so there is no alternative but to cancel this year’s event.
We know that many of you were looking forward to the national celebration of growing and gardening but we are confident too that you will support our decision
Gardening Scotland is a charity and we are a small team, all of whom are now working remotely, so please bear with us while we plan our next step. To help us keep our phone lines open, we would please request that you don’t call us: further information about potential postponement and our refunds policy etc will be communicated next week."
Richard Green of SRGC had already commented that " I am organising the SRGC Stand rota, and think it will be a bit difficult to fill the slots this time round, don't you? Stan and I have scored our attendance out of our diaries already... "

SRGC Discussion Weekend 2020 is cancelled.
Note to Registrants :
You may be concerned about the scheduled Discussion Weekend at Grantown-on-Spey in the light of the recent travel restrictions imposed to limit the spread of the viral pandemic. At present the Grant Arms Hotel is closed and the date for re-opening the hotel is not yet determined but will be dependent upon national guidelines regarding travel.
As a result, the SRGC Council have unanimously approved the cancellation of this meeting for 2020 and I have therefore returned your cheque for the booking fee which was not presented for payment. This is yet another unfortunate and disappointing cancellation in a year when they have been many others, but it was felt that we should take decisive action at an early stage.
If you have attended Discussion Weekends at the Grant Arms before you will know that we have been made most welcome by the staff and it has proved to be an excellent venue for the weekend. Once the travel restrictions begin to be relaxed, it is venues like this which will need the support of their visitors to rebuild their business.
We have therefore provisionally booked the hotel for October 2021 and revised plans will be notified in The Rock Garden and on the SRGC website as the situation develops: we look forward to meeting you there in 2021.
Keep safe and well.
Kind regards,
Peter Maguire (Registration Secretary)

AUTUMN SHOWS AND LATE BULB EVENT 2020
Though restrictions in place because of COVID-19 are gradually being eased,
considerable uncertainty remains about when indoor events might be able to
restart. In view of this we are sorry to announce that the Hexham Autumn and
Discussion Weekend shows, and the Late Bulb event in Aberdeen are cancelled
AUTUMN FESTIVAL CANCELLATION AND AGM
MEETING POSTPONEMENT TO THE EARLY BULB
SHOW
We have decided to cancel the Autumn Festival and move the AGM to the afternoon of
the Early Bulb Show in Dunblane next year on Saturday 20th February 2021. Our belief
is that it is unlikely that we shall obtain a quorum if we hold the AGM in November; as
many of our members are shielding or vulnerable. We have considered the possibility
of holding an electronic meeting, but we consider this impracticable. However, we look
forward with optimism(!) to the position having improved by next February so we can
obtain a good turnout for this combined event. The January Dryas will include the notice
for the AGM, and calls for nominations to Council. We should point out that delay of
the AGM is strictly against our Constitution, but the Office of the Scottish Charities
Regulator has said publicly that they will take a light touch regarding such infringements
in view of the current crisis. Current officials will stay in their existing posts until the
new AGM date. Anyone with any concerns is welcome to contact the Secretary Hannah
Wilson by email - secretary@srgc.net for more details
