This coming year will be the fifth year since I launched the Dryad Gold Series with:
Dryad Gold Sovereign
[attach=1][attach=2]
Dryad Gold Bullion
[attach=3]
Dryad Gold Medal
[attach=4]
which have proven to be vigorous and beautiful garden plants.
As a result and to celebrate their success, I will be offering a few more, ALL of which will be multi-nosed bulbs, so those that wish to add these three specials can look forward to an early clump!
-
[attach=5]I will also be offering small numbers of two brand new Dryad Golds -
Dryad Gold Charm and, hopefully, Dryad Gold Ingot, both of which cover the distinctive diminutive segment of the snowdrop market and again, in line with my normal strategy, multi-nosed bulbs where possible.
Dryad Gold Ingot
[attach=1]
Gold Charm
[attach=5]
There will also be a limited number of:
Dryad Gold Nugget,
[attach=2]
Dryad Gold Ribbon
[attach=3]
and Dryad Gold Star, again all multi-nosed.
[attach=4]
I will list these with a number of other rare cultivars, as I normally do.
Thank you for all your support in 2018, I look forward to supplying you great bulbs again in 2019!
Expect another major announcement soon!
-
Ooh! A bit of Hogmanay excitement ! Thanks, Anne. I have to admit to a soft spot for your Dryad Gold series which has more than a little to do with the quality of the plants. Bulbs from you and Ian Christie do the best for me here - and I know they do even better for others, which is saying something! Happy Days!
-
Ooooooooooooh!
I like the sound of that...
"Expect another major announcement soon!"
What other delights are on the way!!! :o :o :o :o :o

I am excited to announce that we will shortly be offering a very small number of the new Dryad Nursery 'Myths and Legends' series based around major characters from Mythology. These include:
Dryad Artemis is a beautiful and elegant lady with neat and graceful flowers and an upright habit, much admired. It is a mid-height to tall snowdrop growing to about 20-30cm high under glass, probably shorter in the open. It is vigorous and increases well. Artemis was the goddess of chastity and the hunt, and the sleek shape of the plant and purity of the crisp markings of the flower is a tribute to those qualities, while the inner mark is reminiscent of an ancient Greek bow. The icing on the cake is the delicious scent.
[attach=1]
Dryad Venus has curvaceous, shapely flowers with a flirty frill around the outer segments on mature flowers. The mark on the outer segments is shaped like an inverted heart with an inner segment mark of a deeper green 'X' or kiss. With such a ravishing, sensuous shape and markings the only fitting name was Venus, as the Goddess of Love and Beauty. It is a mid-height snowdrop growing to about 20cm high under glass, probably shorter in the open. To add to all this, not only is it scented, but it probably carries yellow genes having Wendy's Gold and Corrin as parents, so will be useful in breeding programmes for yellow poculiforms.
[attach=3]
Dryad Demeter: has solid virescent characteristics, more oil paint than watercolour! Demeter is the Greek goddess of agriculture and vegetation (also known as Anesidora, sending gifts up from the earth). In the ancient Greek religion of Hellenismos she is associated with the colour green. I believe this snowdrop redefines the notion of virescent. It is a short to mid-height snowdrop growing to about 16cm high under glass, probably shorter in the open.
[attach=2]
A very small number of these will be available in the green early in the new year!

The Myths and Legends Series set a new standard...outstanding!

There are some superb cultivars on offer here! Top quality and rapid growers, particularly as most are multi-nosed to start with!
Eilys Elizabeth Hartley is a gorgeous snowdrop and the charitable contribution makes it even more appealing!
If you are after the best yellows, look no further.
-
A reminder that Anne's first Ebay listing will be finishing at around 19:00 hrs UK time tonight!
Some stunning yellows and Eilys Elizabeth Hartley!

Anne Wright's latest Ebay listing has just gone live, more great yellows with the first offering of:
"DRYAD GOLD CHARM: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116787502 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116787502)
One of the more diminutive Dryad Golds, but with one of the longest flowers - newly opening flowers are shaped like large, long teardrops. This dwarf-growing variety is especially suitable for pots and containers, although equally happy in the garden. Slightly larger in all its parts than Gold Star.
Flowering height 10cm. Scapes very upright, flower length including ovary 40mm."
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&_ssn=dryadzny&_sop=3 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&_ssn=dryadzny&_sop=3)
Good hunting!

In our listings tonight, as well as our other Dryad Gold favourites, we are excited to be able to offer the first release of a new baby - Dryad Gold Charm - in very limited numbers.
DRYAD GOLD CHARM: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116787502 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116787502)
Scapes very upright, flower length including ovary 40mm.
[attach=1]
DRYAD GOLD RIBBON: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116770807 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116770807)
Similar in height to Dryad Gold Sovereign, though a little later in flower and with a larger yellow inverted heart on the inner segments, the flower is also more rounded. It has the largest inner mark of all the Dryad Gold group. It has always been singled out by visitors because of its prolific flowering and very upright habit.
[attach=2]
GALANTHUS CORRIN: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116791825 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116791825)
Bred by Rannveig Wallis, this is a superb neat inverse poculiform with plump flowers bearing a double mark on the outer segments. Rarely offered.
Flowering height 15cm. Outer segments with strong green mark towards the end, and a small pale green mark at the base. Inner segment mark deep green and reaching to the base. I seem to have been feeling very generous when I potted these as there seem to be 2 bulbs in the pot!
[attach=3]
DRYAD GOLD SOVEREIGN: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116766088 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116766088)
Dryad Gold Sovereign needs no introduction - quite simply my favourite of all the snowdrops I grow - early, elegant, robust, vigorous and increasing healthily - and yellow as well!
DRYAD GOLD MEDAL: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116767565 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264116767565)
Dryad Gold Medal is an ideal yellow to carry on the season from Gold Sovereign, flowering later, and with rounder and fuller flowers, this cultivar shares the same vigorous habit, is quick to increase and very free flowering.
-
A reminder that Anne's drops will be finishing, commencing at 18:45 UK time, tonight!

Our listings for tonight include the much requested DRYAD ARTEMIS – the first of our Myths and Legends series of Ipoc snowdrops. Artemis has neat and graceful flowers and an upright habit, much admired. The current listings finish tonight! Happy bidding. :)

I am very excited to announce that I will be offering our first bulb of Dryad Gold Ingot tonight on ebay. This is probably the most requested variety, and completes the full set of named Dryad Golds. I only have one bulb for sale this spring, so this is a unique opportunity to obtain this wonderful snowdrop.
Dryad Gold Ingot is a perky little snowdrop with shapely rounded flowers displaying well above short foliage at flowering time. It has been much requested because of its striking colouring – a yellow ovary and olive inner segment mark. The inner mark often bleeds into a yellow zone towards the base.
In addition to Ingot, there will be the opportunity to bid on other Dryad specialities, including the LAST Dryad Artemis for this year, and Dryad Golds Ribbon, Nugget, Bullion and Charm.
It has been drawn to my attention that some other sellers on ebay have been fraudulently listing Dryad snowdrops, including Dryad Golds and Eilys Elisabeth Hartley. This is particularly upsetting in the case of Eilys’ snowdrop as a proportion of the proceeds from the sale of this snowdrop go to charity.
I do not wish to stop legitimate selling of our plants – as a breeder I am happy that my plants are being offered by other nurseries, as I want them to get into people’s gardens – but I do not want people buying in good faith and then being disappointed because a falsely named plant does not perform as they expect. Please, if you are buying from other sellers – always ask where they obtained their stock and make sure the photographs are true, and not stolen from the internet. If you buy from me, you are assured of correctly named, good quality plants – almost always with multiple noses.

Another fine 'drop, Anne - and a timely warning about the dangers out there of scammers .

Not surprised - a real gold ingot!

£1,166 - wow! Is that second place to 'Golden Fleece' or am I forgetting others that topped the £1k mark?
Was Golden Fleece around £1400 ? I thought i had read of one that went for over £1500 - it was a new variety and the auction was also to name it -- it was around feb 14th one year i think and a lady bought it in memory of her recently deceased father ?
I have only read about this one once so ive never been sure -- but even then are there only two previous plus £1000 ?
I had Annes auction open during the evening and when it jumped from 520 - 1050 it was very exciting - even my gf came to watch the last 2 mins :)
-
Stunning result last night Anne, thoroughly deserved!
Second highest result ever for a snowdrop!
If Carlsberg did snowdrops... ;D ;D ;D
-
i can only find the odd reference to this snowdrop sold on ebay for £1600 in 2014
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/plants/10647220/Woman-pays-1602-to-name-snowdrop.html (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/plants/10647220/Woman-pays-1602-to-name-snowdrop.html)
Does anyone know if this is fact or some creative reporting ?
That would make Golden Fleece the second most expensive ? at £1390 in 2015 - although everyone states Fleece has the record.
-
That would make Golden Fleece the second most expensive ? at £1390 in 2015 - although everyone states Fleece has the record.
As I recall, the one you are referring to was snowdrop plus naming rights, so not like-for-like.
Golden Fleece is the highest price for a snowdrop, followed by Dryad Gold Ingot et al.
-
I see what you are saying but surely its still the record price paid for a snowdrop -- name or not
-
I see what you are saying but surely its still the record price paid for a snowdrop -- name or not
Not at all, the price was for the snowdrop and the naming right, not like for like at all.
-
Once in a blue moon I am asked to give a talk about snowdrops. I usually mention the Tom Mitchell sale-with-naming-rights but pass over it quickly as not really counting (because of the indeterminate value of the naming rights). Ironically, I don't think the snowdrop in question has ever been heard of since.
-
eBay noticed that I checked-out the final price of 'Gold Ingot' and suggested Galanthus elwesii 'John Tomlinson' as a similar alternative. I don't think so, eBay!
-
;D ;D ;D I like it, Alan!
Meanwhile...

Our listings starting tonight include our LAST Estonian Spirit for this season, and a feast of late greens from Germany - finishing on Sunday.
Included are three very rarely offered virescents from Hagen Engelmann:
Greenkeeper is late flowering, and medium height at 16cm. The inner segment mark is deep green at the apical third, bleeding back towards the base, and with a white rim around the deep sinus. The outer segments are clawed and 'shouldered', the central third shaded light green with darker green lines running out above and below. This is the LAST ONE for this season
[attach=1]
Basisgrüner has green shaded lines across the outer segments and 2 pale 'eyes' at the base of the inner segments in addition to the bold green inverted U at the apex. We have ONLY ONE to offer.
[attach=2]
Schmalhans im Grünen is a rare and delightful dwarf, flowering at about 7cm high. Outer segments have green shading in the central section, while the inner segments have a deep green apical mark to half the length, usually shaded green to the base. Late flowering.
[attach=3]
Our Estonian Spirit listing is an unnumbered clone, which was probably collected in Hiiumaa, Luidja village. They make slightly larger plants and more floriferous than some of the other clones. This is the LAST ESTONIAN SPIRIT for this season.

"SUMMER LIST UPDATE: I am harvesting and counting bulbs at present, so I am hoping to have the list ready at the end of June/ beginning of July. Our main summer list will contain dormant snowdrops, miniature daffodils, anemones and other bulbs."
Always a super source of snowdrops!

New Message from Anne Wright:
"Dryad Nursery
I think I finally wrestled the website into submission!
Dryad Summer List – Heads Up!
All being well, our summer list will go live around 6.30 pm on Sunday 14 July.
Many items are in very limited numbers, so you will have to be very quick!
I recommend you email in your order as soon as possible. Some of the very rare items will also go onto ebay to give a chance to obtain them if you are not quick enough on the email.
If you have difficulty with email, you may telephone your order, in which case I will note the time of your request and slot it into the appropriate place among the email requests.
PLEASE check the website for availability before ordering – I will try and update it as often as I can, but certainly at least daily after the first 24 hours".
Good hunting! ;D
-
Anne's list has just gone live! Good hunting!
-
Having resolved my website issues, I can now answer the most frequent question I have been getting!
I will be launching my Ebay offerings tonight – 17 July.
I will be listing, among others, a number of our award winning and super true miniature Narcissis, perfect for collectors, alpinists, small space gardeners, exhibitors and all Daffanatics!
The listing will include Narcissi that are RHS competition winners or future winners.
Highlights include N. Sleek, N. Angel's Flight, N. Cheeky Chappie, N. Gianna, amongst many others.
The top listing goes to Narcissus Pet Lamb - a very important and historic variety, having been awarded the Triple honour of the Ralph B. White Memorial Medal for innovation, Best Miniature and Best Seedling at the RHS early show in 2007. We will be offering one of probably only a dozen or so bulbs in existence.

Obviously my favourite, named for my nursery. A beautiful and refined flower, it makes a wonderful pot plant but should also be hardy outside.
NARCISSUS LEMON BREEZE
Bright lemon, slightly reflexed flowers on short stems.
NARCISSUS CANTABRICUS PETUNIOIDES

FIRST TIME OFFERED The mark (at least under glass) is a pale pistachio green, while the ovary is more yellow. It is free flowering.
GALANTHUS KOENENIANUS X FOSTERI

An amazing variety found in Norway after the Chernobyl disaster. The double flowers are very variable from season to season and flower to flower on the same plant. Flowers usually contain a mixture of white, green and crimson.
Good luck!

This one is as rare as hen’s teeth, but so beautiful. The shape of the flower is supremely elegant, with gracefully pointed outer segments.

And for something to go with your ‘drops and daffs :
ANEMONE RANUNCULOIDES GOLDEN DREAM
The most amazing of the Estonian yellows - flowers can vary from season to season, and within the same plant in one season. The flower usually has striking green petaloids emerging from the centre of the flower.
Good luck!
-
Congratulations on the results for the bulbs sold so far on ebay, Anne - I note record prices for some! The buyers must be both excited and delighted to be successful - with the numbers of "sold out" signs on your nursery list these sales add a frisson for those collectors, I'm sure.
-
Thanks, Maggi. Ebay reaches a much wider audience that my normal list - I know many people are disappointed when the choicest things disappear from the list before they have a chance to get them.
-
Our current batch of ebay listings finishes tonight (Sunday). Good luck!

For the Daffanatics, we are excited to be able to offer, for the first time, one bulb of the fabulously rare Pet Lamb, accompanied by other exclusive true miniatures from both Dryad and Brian Duncan in Ireland:
NARCISSUS PET LAMB
A very important and historic variety, it was awarded the Triple honour of the Ralph B. White Memorial Medal for innovation, Best Miniature and Best Seedling at the RHS early show in 2007.
Offered is one of probably only a dozen or so bulbs in existence.
Pet Lamb is an extremely small white trumpet daffodil, flowering at only 5cm high. The creamy white trumpet flowers are less than 2cm in diameter, with a slightly swept-forward perianth, stained bright lime green on the tube. The corona is neatly flanged and frilled at the mouth.
This is the first opportunity to own this little daffodil, and it is unlikely to be offered in any quantity in the future.
NARCISSUS FLURRY
New this year - Elegant, soft white miniature with a long, prettily frilled corona and slightly swept-back perianth on short stems. Was awarded a first prize on her first outing at RHS Rosemoor this year.
NARCISSUS GIPSY VALE
A beautiful little 1W-W miniature, with creamy white trumpets. Consistent show winner and has won many top prizes.
NARCISSUS GISELLE
One or two crystalline pure white pendant flowers per stem, displayed beautifully over low, narrow dark green foliage.
Growing to only 12 cm high, it is easier to grow than most x susannae types, and makes a stunning pot plant.
NARCISSUS LITTLE DRYAD
Obviously my favourite, named for my nursery. A beautiful and refined flower, it makes a wonderful pot plant but should also be hardy outside. Perfect for exhibition at daffodil shows or by alpine exhibitors.
NARCISSUS SPEEDIE
This little hybrid has won multiple first prizes at RHS shows. It has a sleekly reflexed white perianth, and long lemon yellow corona.
NARCISSUS TRIANDRUS LOISELEURII
Rarely offered form of this beautiful species with large elongated flowers of supreme elegance.
For the Galanthophiles, our snowdrops in this outing include many of our Dryad introductions, and other rare delights:
GALANTHUS DRYAD GOLD BULLION
Flowering later, and shorter than Gold Sovereign, this more compact cultivar shares the same vigorous habit, bulks up very rapidly and is very free flowering.
GALANTHUS DRYAD GOLD MEDAL
GOLD MEDAL is an ideal yellow to carry on the season from Gold Sovereign, flowering later, and with rounder and fuller flowers.
GALANTHUS DRYAD GOLD RIBBON
This cultivar has the largest inner mark of all the Dryad Gold group.
GALANTHUS DRYAD GOLD SOVEREIGN
The earliest of the Dryad Gold Group to flower, beginning early-mid January outside in normal years, with large, elegantly long flowers on strong stems, with distinctive long narrow ovaries.
GALANTHUS ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP clone 2009/CS6
First offering of this free flowering clone, with olive-gold markings, and flowers which hang on long pedicels.
GALANTHUS ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP KULLAKE
An outstanding, compact nivalis, very pale and spectral throughout with a narrow, pale yellow mark on inner segments and pale yellow ovary. Even the leaves are pale and silvery.
GALANTHUS RONALD MACKENZIE
Rarely offered yellow form of G. gracilis, with double yellow marks on inner segments.
GALANTHUS SQUIRE BURROUGHS
This one is as rare as hen’s teeth, but so beautiful. The shape of the flower is supremely elegant, with gracefully pointed outer segments.
And a little extra something:
CROCUS VELUCHENSIS X CVIJICII RAINBOW GOLD
One of Dirk Schnabel’s superb seedlings. The golden yellow flowers are overlaid with purple to give an unusual shot bronze flower. Special and rare.
Good luck!
-
Good luck to all the bidders! Likely to be some real excitement for this offering.
-
