Hi Fermi , yes it is an exciting time for us in the Southern Hemisphere...
-
Photo from Sunday. Shame about the speck of dirt but a little imperfection goes a long way 😝

( sorry Maggie, I tried to edit the photo but got stuck..)
-
No worries, Michael, fixed that for you! Lovely to see your snowdrops coming into season.
-
Cheers Maggie, I hope to get a photo or two on the weekend, if the rain sto and the sun comes out.....
-
We'll look forward to that! Much of the UK still in drought conditions - so unusual for most of us, it must be said.
Great weather for the ice-cream makers, though!!
-
A rather poor pic taken in poor light this evening - might get a better one tomorrow - Galanthus elwesii "green outer tips" which I think Otto said might be 'Comet'
cheers

Here's a slightly better pic of "green outer tips" possibly AKA 'Comet'

Galanthus 'Lady Beatrix Stanley' is also in flower but I'm not sure what happened to the first one - it looks like something has taken a bite off the outer petals to level them with the inner "skirt"!

Galanthus elwesii does reasonably well in our garden and are even self sowing gently - we'll never get the carpets of white you see in parts of the UK with G. nivalis but at least they are spreading.
One of the seedlings has green outer tips so there is obviously a bit of influence from 'Comet' near by :)
cheers

So beautiful, Fermi! (And what a good reminder for me to order some more, even if mine won’t be up for months!!)

Knocked out two of Andy Byfield's new gems this morning, Ladyboy and Aunt Nellie Danglers, both beautiful additions to his range.
Ladyboy had 2 additional bulbs, while AND had three, both after one year of growing! Following in the tradition of strong increases set by Morgana, Andrea's Fault, Lemongrass et al.
The Byfield supply chain has plenty of great material, oomph more of a mystery! ;D ;D ;D ;D 8)

Fermi and Blonde Ingrid, I very much like your photos of these beautiful galanthus. I am rather delighted with a New galanthus in my possession, grown by Jane Tonkin. It has a most attractive form, great full green inner segment and nice spherical overy . Thanks Jane. If I could name it , it would be ‘Sweet Jane’. Is there a process to register a name?
-
It’s lovely, Michael!
-
Nice one, Michael - those "Tonkin Girls" have some great plants for you Aussie folks! https://www.tonkinsbulbs.com.au/ (https://www.tonkinsbulbs.com.au/)
-
Michael J Barrett - I believe there is a register of snowdrop names. This thread http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=11561.0 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=11561.0) says somehing about the process.
ADDED] And here is a sample page from the online register https://www.kavb.nl/zoekresultaten?offset=20 (https://www.kavb.nl/zoekresultaten?offset=20)

Galanthus elwesii is the best snowdrop in our garden. I was amused to see a printed plastic label for this Turkish 'drop as "The True English Snowdrop" :o ;D
I've mentioned previously that it is starting to self sow and the first pic shows them spreading in the rock gardn - the middle cluster is the original planting and they have spread further up and down - obviously assisted by ants.
The original ones had a single green patch on the lower part of the inner petal but some of the seedlings have 2 patches and one has quite a big green blotch over most of the inner petal! One even has 4 petals - it sits alone so I'll have to mark it to see if it repeats next year

Thanks for the link to the thread Anthony , very kind of you to search for it, and added it here.
Fermi, the naturalised drift of Galanthus looks wonderful, especially with the rocks . I hope you get to enjoy them over the weekend with a bit of sunshine. Enjoy every minute.
-
And then he thought, why not add a photo to be enjoyed...

Viv has put together a comprehensive look at Galanthus hybrids grown in Australia - check it out on the Vic group's blog https://agsvicgroup.blogspot.com/ (https://agsvicgroup.blogspot.com/)

Thanks for the link to the blog Fermi. Viv certainly has shone a light on some wonderful cultivars and I learnt quite a bit reading the blog.
-
Hi Michael,
yes, Viv's done a great job - as usual!
Here's a little charmer that has managed to survive in our garden though not really thrive.
I think it's Galanthus rizehensis

Nice overview. That Angie Otto's Hybrid is especially very interesting! :)
