Title: Early summer flowering bulb id

Hi, I have this flowering on my allotment and I would like to buy some more, but I don't know its name. The picture is a little misleading because the stem has been buried in mulch. The plant is about a foot high, it flowers blue, there are no leaves to be seen. Please help if you can. I can try to take a better picture.[attachimg=1]

It looks like a Brodiaea of some sort. When blooming here the leaves aren't very evident.

Hi Sally,
You are spot on, this is what it is. It is known here by its synonym Triteleia.

I have now looked at my record of bulb purchases and it turns out to be a Triteleia 'Queen Fabiola' that I bought some 10 years ago. Now I can indulge myself and buy a few more for next year.

Recently in Australia one grower has imported new selections and hybrids of Triteleia laxa from Holland (e.g.https://lambley.com.au/plant/triteleia-laxa-the-giant (https://lambley.com.au/plant/triteleia-laxa-the-giant) )which are doing very well over here. I'm sure that they would be available over there!

Each May many of the hillsides here are awash in the lovely blue of Brodiaea douglasii.

Thank you all for the lovely and useful information. I shall definitely stock up on these in the autumn because they seem to like my conditions.

Sally, we have something similar, the English Bluebell, which transforms the landscape in mid spring. It grows in deciduous forests and when in bloom, they hide all the green vegetation and it looks as if the forest trees are standing in water.
