Glad that Mat was finally able to get to Dunblane!
He's an excellent speaker so I'm sure you'll all enjoy his talk and his company.
When he gets back to Oz he'll be giving us a talk about his "Great Big European Adventure" (at least that's how I've entered it on our syllabus ;D )
Give him my best wishes,
cheers

Mat celebrated his arrival in Scotland with a haircut and beard trim! We love it when our Speakers make an effort!

I'm more than a little sorry not to have been able to attend the event today.

Alan Gardner has been online with photos of the Forrest Medal plant from today's SRGC Show - this lovely Tecophilaea cycanocrocus not only won the premier award but also the Institute of Quarrying Quaich for the best non-European plant in Section 1

Now then - who do we think may have grown and exhibited this fine plant?
Yes, you've guessed it correctly - it's Cyril Lafong - well done Cyril!!
Thank you , Alan, for the photos.

A quick summary of trophy winners. Cyril's Forrest /best non European plant has already featured. H e also won the Glassford Sprunt trophy for best bulbs in a 19 cm pot with a Corydalis . Ian Christie had the Ben Ledi trophy for best European plant with his Galanthus. Anne Chambers took the Spiller cup for best primula with P whitei. Due to bringing most plants I again had the Carnegie Dunfermline trophy
-
Richard Green took the Fife County trophy in section 2. Merit certificates went to Brain & Sheelagh Smethurst for a fine Hepatica, Tom Green for a large Primula megasaefolia, Margaret & Henry Taylor were given a merit cert for a nice little narcissus which I didn't photograph -no doubt someone else did? ( I now see it's the white daff nearest the camera in John Grimshaw's photo above).

Time to go home. Thanks to secretary Sam and all his helpers for running the show and my personal thanks to several people who helped me carry out those boxes!
-
Another brilliant report from a show Stan, thanks for taking me and many others there in this virtual world.
-
While there is comment about Cyril's 58th Forrest medal - it is worth repeating that Stan da Prato again won most points in the show! At the SRGC AGM last November Stan was awarded his 13th and 14th Gold Medal "Bars" (certificates) - he'll be well on the way to another now!!
Just one of the many things Stan excels at - and showing another facet of his award earlier this month by the Caley (Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society) of the Dr Andrew Duncan Memorial Medal.
-
Thanks Stan , nice to see what I missed. Looked a great show .

I've taken the chance of a miserable day of cold weather to enjoy another, "proper" look through the photos from the show - many congrats to all those winning trophies and assorted awards - I hope you are all suitably pleased with your efforts!
