Juno nicolai was fully open in the covered frame during the frost period last week. It seems to be completely undamaged.

It's really rather easy to see why these plants as so fascinating, isn't it? !
-
Steve - your photos are real crackers! Exceptional quality that show off the sculptural perfection of these beguiling plants brilliantly. I'll try to load a few more juno images in the next few weeks, but please don't judge the images against yours! Tim

Lovely pictures as usual Steve. Do you grow all your Junos in pots?
-
Many thanks David.
Yes, all my junos are grown in long-tom pots. The roots are in a VERY gritty mix whilst the base of the bulbs upward is in a coarse pea gravel. I need to do this as I am too heavy-handed with the watering.

Iris parvula ex Uzbekistan. A somewhat underwhelming wee plant.

Taken in Kyrgyzstan this year. I'd welcome confirmation of species names. I have an idea but not so sure on the blue....

The Iris (juno) aitchisonii looks fantastic. Waiting was worth it.

Im hoping to grow my first Junos from seed (collected earlier this year). They are 'iris aucheri indigo' x ? and Juno rosenbachiana_Sogor. Ive been trying to do my homework on-line and think this Ive come up with an approach based on what I could find from people with expertise. Can anyone tell me if this is likely to work and clarify if I should scarify too? Am I missing anything here?
Juno iris germination
- Soak seeds in rain water or boiled water with drop of detergent for 48 hours
Put in free draining potting mix (using perlite) with a 2 cm layer of vermiculite/gravel on top
Three seeds per pot maximum
Soak the whole thing one time and then leave through winter
Leave somewhere cool, like in an unheated greenhouse, and in spring: germination
Keep in initial pot or two years

My first Juno of the season. Iris palaestina
The smell is amazing....somehow apple-ish. Or could that be the colours?
I bought the bulb from Greece in late July and it got started in growth straight away. It's been in doors for a few weeks after the first early frosts. It's so cute
