Perhaps not, Rimmer.   E. caucana does not have that extended pedicel  behind the ovary, I don't think.   Have a look at  E.  formosa on the PBS pages - yours looks more like that ?

Style is too short for E. formosa
And it does not match these pictures for E. caucana with the wide part behind flower and long style.

So perhaps the aff. caucana designation or E. plicata.

Tecophilaea  cyanocrocus  var.  violacea.

Rimmer, very nice Tecophilaea but I think that is perhaps a hybrid - I don't think the true violacea has such a large white eye. Equally Tecophilaea cyanocrocus var. leichtlinii is sky blue - yours looks more violet so that may be a hybrid also. Hopefully I'll post some pictures in a few weeks.

We have very strong sun here in Kentucky compared to Michigan perhaps that has some impact on colouration.

Just re-potted a Tropaeolum azureum that I haven't done for a few years and was surprised at the size - I wasn't aware the tubers got this large. This one is 12 years old. Does anyone know if they get even larger with greater age?

Paul

That's about as large as the biggest we have, Paul. Magnificent, isn't it?  Ours have not gone beyond around 20 years before  fading, leaving  small tubers behind. We get regular seed  - not bigger tubers than that though.

Any advice on how to get azureum, hookerianum and others to break dormancy each year?

I often struggle to get my potted Tropaeolum to spring back into growth in the autumn but find that a few small tubers that have escaped into the sand plunge grow more reliably.

Many thanks Maggi.
A deluge has been booked for 1st September.

I’m now a firm believer in the miracles a monsoon can bring.
I placed some Rhodophiala pots out in the rain last week, the response was swift.

Big Yellow daffodil
Paramongaia weberbaueri - winter, coastal form.
This plant seems to bloom every other year for me. And if it makes offsets it does not bloom that fall-winter. Luckily an offsets is on the opposiite bloom rotation.
Wife says it has a honeysuckel- jasmine smell.

"Big yellow  daffodil"- this lovely plant is an Ismene, sometimes known as the "Peruvian daffodil"apologies, my mind was elsewhere!  ...... actually another  genus in the  Amaryllidaceae family - Paramongaia weberbaueri - now  beginners will be even more confused!  :-\

I've maybe not well understood Maggie but this is not an Ismene but still an other "Peruvian Daffodil" and still another genus in the Amaryllidaceae family...

Nice flower Rimmer, I'm a bit jalous  :)  Does it set seeds ? (now that I have the big white peruvian Daffodil, thanks Hans, I'm looking for this one)

Not a silly mistake at all - very easy to make, and actually the more I look at them the more I think I would like someone to take me through an 'idiot guide' to the differences between the genera...

Here’s the big white daffodil.

Grown from seed sown in 2013. This is its first flowering. This year I put it outside in late May and brought it back indoors in late September -unfortunately the foliage was damaged somewhat by an autumn storm (strong winds and hail) but growing it “hard” seems to have encouraged flowering.
The late evening perfume from the flowers is glorious. -

what do i do with this Clinanthus verigatus (apricot) that is 5-6 months early in my unheated garage.
It usually blooms in Late May for me. But missed blooming this past year, probably due to the early and proloned extreme heat from mid May to mid October.
It is supposed to be going dormant now.

Bloom 30 Dec 2018
