Jassas :)
Now here we reach Naxos town with the ship - our second destination .
First we saw the "Portara" - this is the place where Theseus leave Adriane ....
this is the rest of a temple -it is more than 2000 years old - it is pur marble !
Naxos is famous for his marble -and here we could see that whole mountains build up for it
by one of our fist walkings we found : Gynandiris
-
one of our trips was the Zas Mts. ( named after the greek god Zeus )
we saw also his famous Zas Cave
and on the way : Sternbergia
-
on this island are three big statues - so called : "Kouros"
here are two ( more than 2500 years old ) -they are broken by working or transport
in this area ( terra rossa ) grows a lot of wonderful plants :
forms of Orchis anatolica
Cistus
Lavendula stoechas
and in a garden : Chasmanthe ( thanks Alberto + Michael )
-
here a old windmill
little chappel ( so called : Moni ) on mountaintops
-
on the way to the third "Kouros" ( the sientists suppose this is god Dionysus ) -this statue is 11 m long !
in this area ( near the sea ) we have found :
Dranunculus
Phlomis
and again Sternbergia
-
here a watch tower from "Venizian" time :
and some flowers more :
Lupinus
Papaver
Glaucium flavum
Chrysanthemum coronarium
and a unknown
-
now special for Maggi : a nice Ouzeria in Naxos town
my last pics shows here our appartment near the sea - with view to the island Paros
Thanks for your interest ;)

Wonderful pictures Hans; thanks for sharing them.
Your 'papaver related' and first 'unknown' look like Glaucium flavum and Chrysanthemum coronarium respectively.

Hi Luc ,
I have seen today the cycling race in TV from belgium .....really ugly weather - thats April !
-
I was tired yesterday but I was greatly revived by these happy photos of Hans and Barbara's trip...the flowers made me glad and the photo of Barbara nearly being blown off the hill by the chapel ( in part one.... http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1603.0)
made me smile....but only because I know she is safe.....Hans would not be enjoying the cycling on TV is any harm had come to his wife!
Thank you, Hans. 8)
(By the way, there is better (British Eurosport )TV coverage of the cycling tonight, late on TV, more than the 17 km we had earlier! I will see more then!)
-
Thanks Maggi ;D
.....we had really a problem to reach the top of this mountain - always when we stand on only one feet the storm has blow us near away !
Do you like the pic with the octopus ? ::) ...I must send it to you !
but I have forgotten to made pics of all the nice desserts :
like Baklava ,Halva,Bugatsa,Kateifi, cakes with honey and walnuts ....our favorite was Riso Galo
( ricepudding with cinnamon ) :P

Amazing pictures! I love that place!
Hans, i think your garden Watsonia is a Chasmanthe (Antholiza) aethiopica, or other close species of it. It's invasive here, but i love it anyway!
-
Hans, you are most kind.... but I prefer my octopus cooked, not hanging outside!
-
Thank you Michael for the ID !
Alberto told it me too ....
I have only found a similar plant in my Phillips & Rix book -my first idea as I saw this plants was Crocosmia ...but after near - it was big bushes ...
-
Hans, you are most kind.... but I prefer my octopus cooked, not hanging outside!
Maggi - this is typical for this kind of restaurants ....if the people see it so they know there is fresh octopus from last night .
They eat it grilled or cooked ( so called : Octopus Stifado ) mhhhhhhh
In such "Meze" restaurants you can eat only starters - and they drink Ouzo ( or Raki ) to this starters .
The greek people never drink Ouzo without eating ....very clever !
-
Hans, both orchid pics show forms of Orchis anatolica.
