Here's my first tulip of the year, Tulipa edulis
-
is this a short form? Mine are much taller.
-
Just to advise that BBC 2 2100hrs on 26 January the UK gardening presenter Monty Don will be showcasing the Istanbul Tulip Festival 2017 in a 1 hour programme on the great gardens of India, Turkey and the UK.
-
Just got a pair of pictures from China where my customer has Tulipa regelii, bought from me last year, now already blooming. He was so excited, that this year bought almost all stock. By the way - my new offer-2018 is now open, much earlier than I suspected.
-
Early flowering for that lovely Tulipa regelii - it is certainly one of the most beautiful.
-
such a beauty. My favourite tulip.
-
Tulipa buhseana, a real beauty
Tulipa bifloriformis, sun baked :)
-
I've 2 pots of regelii and i'm thinking no one will flower this year. Is it the lack of sun we had? I'm not the only grower in this case.
-
I looking forward to seeing too. I have 4 mature bulbs and 1 two year old seedling. Fingers crossed.
-
4 regelii bulbs and 2 or 3 year old seedling growing in the garden. I hope they will do fine.
-
it looks promising
-
are they likely to bloom? what do you think?
-
The delicate Tulipa cretica
-
Arda, I think that Turkey is a good country to look for wild tulips and photograph in the wild?
-
not yet Arda, at least 6-7 years from seeds
-
Still growing
-
Arda, I think that Turkey is a good country to look for wild tulips and photograph in the wild?
Yes Ian maybe. But in close proximity there is no tulip where I live.
not yet Arda, at least 6-7 years from seeds
Actually only one is seedling which is 2 or 3 years old I am not sure.
Others are mature bulbs I bought. But I am not sure how mature they are I thought it was flowering size since it is a dwarvish tulip.
-
the marvellous Tulipa doerfleri started to bloom while i was away.
-
My Tulipa saxatilis starting to bloom right now in central Portugal.
This one spreads quite well and I love them in open flower under the sun, but this has been a very wet March.
-
nice bouquet ;)
I've lost label of this one, i think Janis it cames from you, a latvian hybrid.

Yup, I agree... some of the most beautiful tulips are also the most common ones.

Finally for today, the very tiny Tulipa neustruevae

[attachimg=2]
As you can see, I am letting grass and weeds grow in my tulip pots, for three reasons: 1) to partially reproduce the meadow conditions in which many tulip species grow; 2) they will help to regulate the moisture in the pots, hopefully not too wet or dry; and, primarily, 3) I'm really very lazy.
-
Crumbs! Lots happening in the sun in your garden, Ralph! Just been admiring your rhodos and others too!
-
Lovely stuff Ralph.
-
yep, nice collection Ralph :o

That's a beautiful tulip Yann, I really love Tulipa clusiana var. stellata, it's one I want to try next year, they should do well in my climate zone. Thank you for sharing.

Tulipa julii
-
Just back from enjoying a week in cool, damp and grey Scotland (actually it brightened up towards the end of the week and Saturday was lovely and a balmy 17 C). While we were away there was an explosion of tulip blooming, and everything else for that matter!
Pictures to follow...

The White Tailed Deer have been successfully warded away from the tulips in time this year. First on display is Tulipa x 'Waterlily'. The deer did manage to get a few leaf tips, but that was all!
-
Here's a better picture of Tulipa 'Artist'.

Some neotulip from april
Tulipa planifolia (true one, different from the one usually commercialized which is T. rubidosa)
Tulipa planifolia (inside)
Tulipa montisandrei
-
A very steady performer. Has been growing exposed to our summer rains for more than ten years. Most species dwindle by this time.
Tulipa altaica
-
Artist and Golden Artist are my favorite viridiflora tulips. Very late blooming for a tulip, yet don't wither quickly in the heat. They are large (both flower and plant) but relatively short stemmed.
-
Little jewels from a supermarket bargain basket, a cultivar of Tulipa linifolia I suppose.
-
Most are flowering, I see, so good for a bargain!
-
Dead heading Tulipa sprengeri. I did leave a few (probably too many) for the seedex and I always miss some I don't see till the seeds are scattered. Now for the Lilium martagon.
-
As yours are dying down, Roma,
ours are just starting!
First for us is Tulipa orthopoda grown from AGS Seedex 2003 seed wild collected.
This first flowered in 2014 and seems to be improving each year (plus this year I got to see them before the molluscs got to them!)
cheers

Diane Clement (AGS Seedex Director) has just given me further information: Tulipa orthopoda
The seed was collected in the Tien Shan in Kazakhstan by Jan Blokland from the Netherlands!
Talk about well travelled - as it is now flowering in Central Victoria, Australia!
;D

What a wonderful, small, friendly world of plants !!

Jon (Mini-Bulb Lover) sent me a link to this nursery in Manchester which is ditching plastic bags in favour of starch-based replacement!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen T. cretica before, Fermi — it’s lovely!
Kelly
-
Hi Kelly,
yes, it is lovely even though it's pretty small.
This year the Tulipa clusiana varieties are already started!
1) The first pic is probably the one I grew from seed "ex 'Lady Jane' " and it is running a bit!
2 & 3) Tulipa clusiana 'Lady Jane' from Lambley Nursery
4) Tulipa clusiana var chrysantha
cheers

clusiana is so simple but so perfect :P
-
Hi Yann,
yes, T. clusiana is one of my favourites - I especially like the form with the purple centre :)
Here is the tulip I got as T. bakeri which is now supposed to be called Tulipa saxatilis 'Bakeri Group'!
It doesn't run about as vigorously as T. saxatilis in our garden
cheers

This Tulipa agenensis ssp sharonensis was raised from the same batch of seed as the one above but is growing in a more exposed position and seems to be doing it tough.
It's less than half the size!
