Brian is reading Lady Sale's Diary about the retreat from Kabul in 1841/2 and amidst the hunger and earthquakes she reports that someone brought her a bunch of Narcissus, about which she was very pleased having rarely seen a blade of grass. Any one have any idea which Narcissus that would be?

Shelagh, it could be one of the Tazetta group. They have a wide distribution from Spain to China and vary from region to region. Collins guide to bulbs by Patrick M Synge. The internet has it as Tozeta.

Thank you Ian, I hadn't realised until this that Narcissus grew in Afghanistan.
