Loaded for the last show of the season tomorrow. Contrary to popular belief my car is not elastic and some plants have to be left behind including this rhododendron.
-
Oh dear, shame that one has to be missed out - mind you, you may not have got in the car yourself even if it had been your only entry, Stan :D
-
Ardfearn, Kevock, Solstice ( a local Aberdeen nursery) and John Owen of Askival are the nurseries attending the Aberdeen show tomorrow - here are some of the plants Sarah and Ali will be bringing from Ardfearn.....[attachimg=1]

An uncalled for jibe given my recent weight loss programme
Slenderising Stanley

Indeed not - I mentioned to Angela only last week that you appear to be a shadow of your former self - I referred only to your large rhododendron - no euphemism intended!

It may be that taking phone pix in a greenhouse is tough, or perhaps David Millward and Cyril Lafong really are in a fug!

The first set of five shows Cyril and his fine plants starting with the very large double white Trillium which won him his 57th Forrest medal. This led to the somewhat obvious comment that he must be full of (Heinz) beans at this achievement. Passing swiftly back to the plants he received merit certificates for two very well formed albeit in very different ways saxifrages as well as the Esselmont quaich for for three rare or difficult plants -more pics of these later
-
Ian Christie received the Craig Cup for best Primula with P sieboldii and well deserved certificates of merit went to group convenor Mike Hopkins for a Lewisia Joyce Halley that had been in contention for the Forrest, Anne Chambers for an Arisaema taiwanense, Nick Boss for his Leontopodium pusillum
-
In a well filled section 2 Dave Aitken had the best individual plant with an Arisaema even though it was one of a two pan that together came second to Angel Townsley's very nice pairing of a Cypripedium and Trillium which won the Bull trophy. Erica Beaton won the cup for a junior exhibitor. Back in the open section I received the Simpson salver for the pink Rhododendron in the group of six in Class 1 as well as the Walker of Portlethen trophy for again bringing in the most plants
-
starting with class 2 for three pans then class3 for two plants raised from seed with informative notes

more from that class
-

-
Australasian plants, bulbs, shrubs, foliage, plants from a specified country
-

-
a dwarf rhodo, poppies, impressive trilliums, more bulbs and primulas
-

The corridor the show is held in is only a part of the Welch winter garden which has one of the best displays of indoor plants in the country. Beside the glasshouses open to the public there are others which bring on plants for future display - some shown with centre manager Alan.
-
Outside some views - in the rain - of the rock garden which local SRGC group members are involved with
-
Back inside the function area - some people even get married here - was used for the presentation. Aberdeen group convenor Mike Hopkins thanked all involved with the show and presented trophies. Angie received a large glass bowl for eating most cakes. Then it was time to remove the plants leaving the corridor looking empty which will be changed by now as the Duthie park gardeners will have refilled it with their summer display plants

Thanks Ian and Stan; very interesting to see this 8)
Please what's that primula in img_2770 (page 2, reply #26)?
-
[attachimg=1]
Primula forrestii, methinks - now renamed as P. bullata var. forrestii
-
Thanks Maggi :-*
Note to self made for the next seed exchange.

Thanks to everyone especially the exhibitors . We wouldn't have the show without you. It was a miserable day outside but seeing everyone and the cakes brightened up the day.
Thanks Stan for sharing the show with everyone. You come to these shows with your plants and then you find the time to post the pictures, so much hard work . I know everyone appreciates your efforts but thanks from me.
Hope everyone got home safe with their plants and I hopefully you will look after these beautiful plants for next years show .
Thanks again.
Angie :)
