Title: Rhamnus japonica,...most certainly not
Post by: WimB on April 29, 2017, 08:54:17 PM
Bought a plant today as Rhamnus japonica but that is most certainly not correct. It grows only 2-3 cm tall and has brownish leaves. I found one pic of it online (with the name Rhamnus japonica, again incorrectly). Anyone who can help me with the name? Pic with flowers can be found here: https://www.tuinadvies.nl/img/tuinadvies/uploads/1431892651-138050.jpg (https://www.tuinadvies.nl/img/tuinadvies/uploads/1431892651-138050.jpg)

Hello Wim
Your picture looks a lot like Mazus radicans ---a NZer

A good sized patch disappeared here this summer ,(so called  ;D), when it got too dry however there must have been a piece of root left as it's away again.

Cheers Dave.

Thanks Dave, that's it...so it needs wet soil?

No worries Wim,

Sun or shade preferably with some moisture.
Known to grow in a range of soil conditions but more common in wetter areas.
Has a common name of 'swamp musk'.

Cheers Dave.
